This Indenture Made this 27th Day of august in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred Seveny and eight between John Roberson of the County of Pittsylvania of the one part & Thomas Dillard & Martha his Wife and Isaac Clements & Ann his wife of the same County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Dillard & Clements for and in Consideration of the Sum of Fifty Pounds Current Money of Virginia to the said Clements in hand paid at and before the insealing and delivery of these Presents the Reciept whereof he the said Isaac Clements & Thomas Dillard doth hereby acknowledge & the said John Roberson and his Heirs therefrom acquitt Aconerate & discharge hath by these Presents Granted Bargained and Sold to the said John Roberson his Heirs or assigns all that Tract or Parcel of Land Containing by Estimation One Hundred & Eighty one acres be the same More or less Cituate Lying & being in the County of Pittsylvania on both sides of Sycamore Creek and bounded as followeth to Witt, Beginning at a White Oak in William Mobleys line thence New Lines South Seventy eight degrees West Sixty eight poles Crossing a branch to a White Oak South Twelve degrees West One Hundred & Twenty two poles to a white Oak North Seventy four degrees West Twenty four Poles to a Pine South Twenty six degrees West fifty four Poles Crossing a Branch to a Pine South fifty three degrees West forty nine poles to a White Oak on the aforesaid Creek North Sixty four degrees East fifty poles to a White Oak South Twenty Eight Degrees East twenty Eight Poles to a Pine North Eighty four Degrees East forty Poles to Pointers North forty two Degrees East one hundred and forty Poles Crossing a branch to a Pine North twenty two Degrees West Ninty Poles to a White Oak Corner in Mobleys Line and Thence on the Same Crossing the Said Creek North Sixty one Degrees West fifty foure Poles to the Beginning together with all and Singular the Houses Orchards Woods Ways Waters and all other Benefits and advantages Whatsoever to the Said Land belonging or in any wise appertaining and that the said John Roberson and his Heirs may at any time hereafter enter into and upon have Whole Use Occupy Possess and injoy Said Land and Premises without the Denial Molestation or Disturbance of them the Said Thomas Dillard and Isaac Clements or their Heirs or any other Person or Persons Whatsoever and further the Said Thomas Dillard and Isaac Clements agree to and will the Said John Roberson and his Heirs assigns that they and there Heirs will at any time hereafter at the Request Proper Cost and Charge in the Law of him the said John Roberson and his heirs Mand and Execute or Cause to be made and Executed Such further or other Reasonable act of Conveyance and assurances as Shall be adjudges Necesary for the Quiet Injoyment of the above Mentioned Granted Land & Presents Unto the Said John Roberson his Heirsor assigns forever In witness Where of the said Thomas Dillard and Isaac Clements have hereto Sett their hand and Seal the day and Year first above Written  ) the Woods and premises ) His Heirs or assigns } and assigns } Enterlined before Assighned )

Received of John Roberson Fifty Pounds Curt Money of of Virginia in full Consideration for the within Mentioned Granted Land and Premises Witness our hands this 27th day of August 1778

Memorandum that on the 27th day of August 1778 Quiet and Peacable Possession of Livery and Sezon was had and Taken by the within Named Thomas Dillard and Isaac Clements and by them Delivered to the said John Roberson According to the Meaning and Intent of of the within Written Deed wittness our hands the day and year Above Written

At a Court held for Pittsylvania County the 24th day of Sep.r 1778
The within Indenture Together with the Memorandum of Livery & Seizen and Receipt hereon indorsed was Acknowledged by the within Named Thomas Dillard and Isaac Clement to be their said Acts and Deed and the same was Ordered to be recorded by the Court

[Note: Virginia Land Office Patents No. 41, 1772-1773, p. 329 records that Thomas DILLARD Jr. and Isaac CLEMENTS acquired the land they conveyed in the above deed by patent dated 15 Jun 1773.]
