Thomas Gray Collector, Recorded 6th July 1822

Know all men by these presents, that we Thomas Gray, Jesse C. Gainer and Daniel Clement of the County of Henry & State of Tennessee are held and firmly bound unto William Carroll Esquire Governor of said State for the time being in the sum of Sixteen hundred and seventy seven dollars Seventy five Cents to be paid to the said Governor & his successor in office To which payment well and truly be made we bind our selves our heirs, exectors & administrators, Jointly and Severellay firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this fourth day of June AD one thousand eight hundred and twenty two.
      The Conditions of the above obligation is such that where the above bound Thomas Gray is Constituted and appointed Collector of the public taxes levied on land in Henry County for the year 1821 pursuant to an to an act of the General Assembly at Murfreesboro on the 16 Nov 1822. If therefore the s.d Thomas Gray shall well and truly collect and pay to the Treasurer of West Tennessee, all taxes by him collected, or which he may be bound to collect for the year 1821 aforesaid, agreeable to the law aforesaid, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and effect.
