This deed made this 1st day
of May 1886 between Adam Clement, Juliet E Slaughter, George W Clement
Jr., and Nancy his wife, Jesse A [should be 'H'] Jones and Nannie his
wife, Geo A Jennings, John N Clement, John Clement, R. A. T. Clement Chas
Clement and E P Goggin Commissioner parties of the first part, and Mary
C Jones party of the second part. Witnesseth: that whereas in a chancery
suit lately depending in the Circuit Court of Campbell County under testyle
[?] of W. S. Jones and wife vs Adam Clement and others it appeared that
the said Mary C Jones party of the second part was entitled to have conveyed
unto her the tract of land hereinafter described and whereas by a decree
outlined in said cause at the October term of said Court 1885. The Court
did decree that the said E.P. Goggin who was appointed a commissioner
for the purpose of conveying whatever interest the infant defendant in
said suit Chas H Jennings may have in the tract of land in the Bill and
proceedings in said suit mentioned should convey the said land, to wit:
465 ¼ acres unto the said Mary C Jones party herein of the second part
with special warranty of title in which said deed it was further by said
decrees ordered that the other parties, herein named as parties of the
first part should unite. Now therefore the said parties of the first part
in consideration of the premises and the sum of five dollars in hand paid
by the said Mary C Jones the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge do
hereby grant and convey unto the said Mary C Jones party of the second
part the following tract or parcel of land..To wit: the tract of land
lying in the County of Campbell and containing four hundred and sixty
five and a fourth acres (465 ¼ ) it being a part of a tract of land formerly
belonging to Adam Clement
Sr., ded'd and to which Ro A Clement the father of the said grantee
Mary C Jones was entitled as will appear by references to the said suit
of Jones and wife vs Clement and others lately depending in the circuit
Court of Campbell County as aforesaid and the said parties of the first
part covenant to and with the said Mary C Jones that they will warrant
specially the property conveyed.
State of Virginia I, John M Speece a notary public in and for the County of Bedford in the State of Virginia do Certify that E.P.Goggin whose name is signed to the above writing bearing date the 1st May 1886 has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid.
