This Indenture made this Seventeenth day of JuneOne thousand Seven hund & forty Eight in the Twenty Second Year of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by his Grace of god of Great Brittain France Ireland King Defender of the Faith & anno Dom MDCCXLvii Between William Clemment Junr. of Amelia County of the one part & William Compton of the same County of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Clement Junr. for and in consideration of the sum of Eleven pounds Current money of Virginia by the said William Compton to the said William Clement Junr. in hand paid at & before the Ensealing & Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the sd. William Clemment Junr. doth hereof Acknowledge and hereof & of every part hereof doth Acquit & discharge sd. William Compton his heirs Exors. & Admis have given Granted [ ] Sold Enffeoffed & confirmed and by these Presents [ ] Grant [ ] Enfeoff & Confirm to the said William Compton his heirs & Assigns One Tract or Parcel of Land Situate lying and being in the County [ ] Amelia aforesd. Containing Seventy four acres it being Granted to the [ ] William Clemment Junr. by Patent bearing date the Twentieth day [ ] August one thousand Seven hundred and forty Seven In the twenty first [ ] of his Majestys Reign with all & Singular the Appurtenances the [ ] belonging and all the Estate Right title Intrest Property Claim & Demand whatsoever of him the sd. William Clemment Junr. Of in & to the pro[ ] and every part & parcell thereof and the Reversion & Reversions Remainder & Remainders Rents [?] & Profits thereof & of every part & parcel thereof To have and to hold the Premises aforesd. with the appurtenances to the sd. William Compton his heirs & assigns for ever to the only use and behoof of him the said William Compton his heirs & assigns for ever And to no other use Intent or purpose Whatsoever and the said William Clemment Junr. for himself his heirs Exrs. & Adms. & every of them doth Covenant Promise & Grant to & with the sd. William Compton his heirs & assigns in Manner & form following that he the sd. William Compton his heirs or assigns shall or may from time to time & at all Time hereafter peaceably & Quietly have hold possess occupy & Enjoy the sd. Premises with the Appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof without the Lawfull let Suit hindrance Interruption Eviction Molestation or Disturbance of him the said William Clemment Junr. his heirs or assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever having or Lawfully claiming or which shall have or Lawfully Claim any right Title or Interest in to or out of the said premises with the appurtenances or any part thereof and also freely clearly Discharged of & from all former and other Bargains Sails Gifts Grants ffeofments Jointors Dowers Leases Wills Intails Statutes Judgments Recognisanes Mortgages Exonitions Rents Covenants and all other Charges Titles Troubles and Incumbrances Whatsoever and that the said William Clemment his heirs Exors. Admrs. the premises aforsd. & with the appurtenances to the said William Compton his heirs & assigns against all persons whatsoever shall & will warrant and [ ] forever defend In Witness whereof the parties to these presents have interchangeable set their hands & Seals the day & year first above Written.
Memorandom That the same day Livery of Seisin & possession of the Land & premises within Mentioned was made & given by the said William Clement to the Said William Compton in our presence
At a Court held for Amelia County the xix day of June MDCCXLviii William Clement & Mary his wife Presented and acknowledged their Deed with the Livery of Seisin Endorsed to William Compton and Ordered to be recorded the said Mary being first privately Examined and voluntarily Assenting thereto relinquished her right of Dower in the Land conveyed by the said Deed.
[Note: Virginia Patent Book 28, page 134 records that William CLEMENT Jr. acquired the land he conveyed in the above deed by Virginia Land Office Patent dated 20 Aug 1747.] |
