[A description of that Hubbard Bible was recently published, quoting: ] "Biblical scholars know the Books of Maccabees are part of what has been designated as the Apocrypha. The Apocrypha was an integral part of the King James version of the Bible until 1827 when the British and Foreign Bible Society, followed by the American Bible Society and other publishers, decided to omit it in their editions. All 12 apocryphal books are included in the Hubbard Bible's Old Testament. The Old Testament is preceded in this Bible by such rites as "The Ministration of Public Baptism of Infants to be used in the Church"; "The Order for the Visitation of the Sick" and " The Thanksgiving of Women after Childbirth" commonly called the Churching of Women. In addition, this Bible, which is published in the colonial style with "f" replacing "s", contains a special version of the Psalms of David. The page preceeding these Psalms in English meter reads, 'A New Version of the Psalms of David fitted to the Tunes used in Churches by N. Brady D.D. Chaplain in Ordinary and N. Tate, Esq., Poet Laureat to His Majesty'." |
