James COURTNEY (b. abt 1839 Ireland - d. 15 Aug 1897) was 22 years old when he mustered into Company D of the 16th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry with the rank of Private. The 16th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Cameron, Cambridge, Massachusetts on 29 June 1861.
