  • John, along with brother Jacob, arrived on the ship “Speedwell”, along with a wife and several children. It is recorded that instead of settling in Virginia, John and his family went west to Pennsylvania. John eventually had a total of twelve children.

  • One of John's sons, Christian STRALEY (born in 1742 in Stattgarst, Germany), was age16 in 1758 when they emigrated to America. He would have been on the same ship with his father John and family, as well as his Aunt Susan and Uncle Jacob. An article in the Roane County VA History journal even implies that Christian initially went down the James River with Jacob and Susan to Lynchburg.
