-
James Jacob served in the War of 1812 in the 86th Regiment under Capt. Andrew JOHNSTON & Lt. Col. C. SNIDOW. The 87-acre land grant he received in 1816 on the west side of New River (near Wallow Hole) was probably for this military service.
-
Tax records show that James Jacob bought 100 acres in 1808 (from John WHITE) at Camping Hollow in Giles Co, VA.
.
-
In 1827, James Jacob's uncle Andrew STRALEY came to live with him and his family due to old age (per recorded wills). The Giles Co, VA 1840 Census of Pensioners lists Andrew (age 80 or 88), still living with James, which he continued to do until his death in 1841. Andrew outlived two wives and had no children of his own.
-
Betsy Vaught's father, Christian VAUGHT Jr., (b. 1750 in Somerset, NJ) and Andrew VAUGHT are listed among Giles Co., VA fighters in the Colonial Revolutionary War.
