Charles Clement Straley was born in Adamsville, Lampasas Co, Texas. Maggie was born in Fannin, Texas. She died at Davis Ranch, Lampasas, Texas.
-
Charles died at the age of 42. The story, as often told to me by my mother, Elsie, and her father,
C.D. Straley, was that Charlie had taken a long trip to town. He was gone for several days. During his absence, a new barbed wire fence was constructed. Charlie returned alone one night, unaware of the new fence. He rode full speed into it, killing him. Those events left his wife, Maggie, a young widow.
As fate would have it, Charlie's brother,
John H. Straley, had experienced similar tragedy earlier that May. His own wife, Addie, died (in childbirth
as the story goes). The story follows that Charlie and John had made an agreement to look out for each other's families in the event of either's death. So, soon after Charlie's death, John H. and Maggie were married. They eventually had more children.
-
Charles C. Straley is buried in Silver
Valley Cemetery
cem. Maggie is buried in Oplin Cemetery cem,
CCTX (Maggie's
obituary), with her second husband
John H. Straley.
