    "My line is paper traceable back to John Durham, 1757-1830. I believe he was born in Virginia and I know he died in Orange County, North Carolina. He died intestate so no will exists, however, I have his estate settlement papers from Orange County. The research work of others [Ken Durham of Texas, Gerald Collins, and the Joan Evans reproduction of the Shellman Durham Bible] indicates John may be the son of Mathew Durham and Susannah Lindsey.

    My GGGrandfather was Young Marcus Alexander Hardaway (YMAH) Durham (15 Sep 1823), the son of John (1757-1830) and his third wife, Jane (Jean) Hatch Durham Holder. (John was 62 and Jane was about 15 when they married in Sep 1819.)  After the death of John and the settlement of the estate, Jane Hatch Durham married John Holder in Orange County, North Carolina on 28 Apr 1832. Young, his sister Cynthia, his mother Jane, step father John Holder and William Hatch, probable nephew of Jane, came to Paulding County, Georgia from North Carolina in the 1840s. YMAH was called Young and was also known as "Alphabet" Durham in Paulding County. Cynthia married James McCrayer in Paulding County on 20 Mar 1845.

    My GGrandfather, Thomas Jefferson Durham, son of YMAH and Mariah Elsberry, married Sarah (Sallie) Treadaway in 1894. This was after the birth of six boys, one of which was my Grandfather Daniel Jefferson Durham."
