Thomas Hamilton Smith by all accounts was a Sea Captain and Master Mariner who came to Australia and became the Pilot Officer at Tweed Heads (Lighthouse Keeper) taking over from his wife to be's father William McGregor who, was the first pilot office at Tweed Heads.
Tom married Alison Helen McGregor in 1885 at Tweeds Head, New South Wales, Australia who was the first white child in Tweed Heads, NSW arriving with her family on August 20th 1870.
The couple had 4 Children - 3 girls Alison, Hilda, Myra and one son Thomas Jnr who also became a lighthouse keeper.
Alison married Mickey (Michael) Rippon and Hilda Married Captain Gordon Grassick ex Merchant Service Master Mariner. Both Mickey and Gordon when they retired from the sea became lighthouse keepers and served at Long & Pine Islands and others in the Whitsundays passage. Neither had any children. Mickey retired to Sydney Gordon & Hilda retired to Tiber Street East Coorparoo where Gordon died in June 1964 and Hilda a few years later
Sadly Myra the youngest was found wandering the beach at collangatta in the early hours of the morning as was committted to the Goodna Mental Asuylum. She was still there when Thomas Jnr Died.
Thomas Jnr married Lil of Chinese extraction. They retired to Lucy St Thornside - they had no children."
