Mrs. Countiss was the widow of the lamented Reuben C.
Countiss, who passed away in 1914, and who was one of
the county’s leading citizens – a Confederate veteran
and a man of honesty and ability. She had lived at
Pittsboro for many years, where she was regarded as
one of the most worthy and beloved persons of the
community. She had been a member of the Methodist
Church for many years and was a devout Christian
and a woman of kindly heart and deep regard for
her family and friends. Mrs. Countiss was widely
known as a woman of fine character and high ideals.
Her long life was spent in doing good for others
and in lending a cheerful word and a helping hand
to those in need and in distress. She is survived
by a sister, Mrs. Martha Ann Byars, of Pittsboro,
and two step-daughters, Mrs. Addie Pittman of Webb
and Mrs. Etta Webb, of Coffeeville. A number
of nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.
