Grocery Wholesaler, W. L. GORDON, Dies
W. L. GORDON, president of W. L. GORDON Co., Inc.,
a leader in the food brokerage industry, died here
Thursday. Gordon, who lived at 1701 Preston Towers,
was a native of Whitewright, Grayson County. He came
to Dallas in 1923 and began his own food brokerage
firm, W. L. GORDON, inc., in 1940, now one of the
largest such businesses in the South. He was past
president of the Dallas Food Brokers Association and
a member of the National Food Brokers Association,
the Texas Wholesale Grocers Association and the Texas
Retail Grocers Association. He was also a principal
stockholder and chairman of the board of GORDON-ROBINSON
Inc., a Shreveport based food brokerage. He was a member
of the Highland Park Methodist Church and formerly served
on the church board. He was also a charter member of the
Highland Park Methodist Men’s Club. His parents, the late
Mr. and Mrs. R.B. GORDON, were early settlers of Whitewright.
Survivors are his wife; three sisters all of Whitewright,
Mrs. C.W. POPE, Mrs. J.P. LIVINGSTON, and Mrs. Allen T. SHORT.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at
Restland Funeral Home. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.
