CARLISLE - Myrl May Carpenter, 86, of Carlisle, Ark.,
died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Baptist Memorial
Hospital, North Little Rock. She was a homemaker and
lifelong resident of Lonoke County. She was born on
October 17, 1913, at Morrilton to John Bruce Gordon and
Carrie Etta Tucker. She was married Nov. 30, 1938, to
Richard Carpenter, who in 1996 preceded her in death.
She is survived by children and their spouses, Doris Jean
Sessoms and her late husband, Floyd of Autryville, N.C.,
Karen DeVinney of Lonoke, Frances James and her husband,
Ray of Little Rock, Doyne Carpenter and his wife, Judy of
Carlisle, Benny Carpenter and his wife, Minnie Lou of Austin,
Glenda Hemphill and her husband, Mike of Monett, Mo., and
Sherri Webb and her husband, David of North Little Rock; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Fred
Gordon and Lindell Gordon of Carlisle. She was preceded in
death by a grandson, Dee Edwin Carpenter, a brother, W. S.
Gordon, and three sisters, Edna McKaskle, Velma Cates and
Nerine Lantrip. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church at Carlisle, where she was very active in all areas of
church ministry. She also did volunteer work at Lonoke County
Cares. She was also very much involved in the lives of her
children and grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 to
8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2000, at Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church, Carlisle, Ark. Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday,
April 15, 2000, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Schalchlin and Rev. Duane Kingston officiating. Burial will be
at the Hamilton Cemetery in the Hamilton community south of
Carlisle. Her grandsons Mark and Wade DeVinney, Todd, Lyn,
and Chris Carpenter, Jason James, Noah Webb, and great-grandson,
Ryan Carpenter will serve as pallbearers. Her granddaughters
Vanessa Farmer, Christy Brightwell, Amy and Carrie James, Staci
Smith, Laurie, Rachael, and Valarie Hemphill, and Erica Webb will
serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made
to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Carlisle, Ark.
