Aug 25, 1916 Van Buren County Democrat newspaper pg 1, column 4 "A Relic of Civil War Days - Discussing the subject of keepsakes or relics Uncle Wilson Pate remarked a day or so since that he had a fancy white vest which he prized very highly. The garment was bought in Senatobia Miss in 1862 for $2.50. Uncle Wilson says he was not particularly needing such a vest at the time but invested thru a desire to help a comrade long on clothes and short on cash. Today, however, it has a value not measured in money. Arrayed in this vest some four years after its purchase it was his good fortune to lead to the hymenal altar Miss America Gordon with whom for more than a half century he has traveled hand in hand down the stream of time and whose companionship it is yet his privilege to enjoy."
