1. 1790 Fairfield Co SC census record listed Alexander Gordon as head of household which included 1 free white male 16yrs&up, 1 free white male under 16yrs, 2 free white females and 8 slaves. (pg 171, #17)
2. 1800 Chester Co SC census record listed Alexander Gordon as head of household which consisted of 2 free white males under age 10yrs, 3 free white males 10-16yrs, 1 free white male 45yrs&over, 4 free white females under 10yrs, 1 female 26-45yrs of age. They owned 2 slaves. (pg 93, #36)

26. Oct 4, 1850 Wayne Co MS census record shows Erasmus W. Powe age 37, Mary age 27, Caroline H. age 7, Elizabeth age 4, Erasmus L. age 13 & James E. age 22 on their farm. Their real estate was valued at $1500. It is noted all were born in MS. (pg 259b, #127)
27. Oct 14, 1850 Wayne Co MS census record shows John Gordon age 63, Elizabeth age 60, Sidney age 33, John age 22, Julia E. age 19 & Westley age 12 on their farm. Their real estate was valued at $400 & they owned 13 slaves. (pg 261b, #161)
28. Oct 16, 1850 Wayne Co MS census record shows John McKay age 29, Ann age 22, William age 2 & John A. age 1 on their farm. It is noted their real estate was valued at $180. It is noted all were born in Mississippi. (pg 262a, #163)
29. Nov 1, 1850 Wayne Co MS Slave Schedule census record shows John Gordon owned 13 slaves which consisted of 6 black males & 5 black females & 1 mulatto female. (pg 585)
30. Aug 18, 1860 Wayne Co MS Slave Schedule census record shows John Gordon owned 9 black slaves. (pg 314)
31. Sep 4, 1860 Wayne Co MS census record shows E.W. Powe age 47, Mary age 37, Caroline age 16, Elisabeth age 13, Elisha age 9, Wm age 7 & Infant age 2mo, Wesley Gordon age 18 & E.L. Powe age 20 on their farm. (pg482b, #32)
32. Oct 12, 1860 Wayne Co MS census record shows John Gordon age 73, Elizabeth age 71 & Wesley age 22. The M. Shumake family are living with them. Their real estate is valued at $600 & personal property valued at $18,00. He owned 9 slaves. (pg 499a, #182)
33. Oct 12, 1860 Wayne Co MS census record shows John McKay age 46, Ann age 35, John N. age 12, Wm age 10, Emaline age 9, Catherine age 7, James age 5 & an infant age 2mo on their farm, P.O. Waynesboro. Their real estate was valued at $500 & personal property valued at $7000. It is noted that John was born in North Carolina and all others in Mississippi. (pg 500, #184)
34. June 8, 1870 Wayne Co MS census record shows Alexander Gordon age 55, Catharine age 48, Rosanna age 29, John age 19, Sampson age 17, Sarah age 13, Mary I. age 10 & Rosa A. age 5 on their farm in township 6, P.O. Waynesboro. Their real estate is valued at $750 & personal property valued at $500. John & Sampson are listed as farm laborers. All were born in MS. (pg 188b, #3)
35. Jul 14, 1870 Wayne Co MS census record shows John McKay age 49, Ann age 44, William E. age 22, Emeline V. age 19, Catharine E. age 17, James W. age 15, Caroline A. age 13, Alexander J. age 11 & Margaret A. age 2 living in township 8, P.O. Waynesboro. Their real estate is valued at $1000 & personal property valued at $2500. John is a Dry Goods Merchant & William is a Dry Goods Clerk. It is noted that John was born in NC & all others born in MS. (pg 207b, #1)
36. Christopher R. Dyess was first married to Sarah Gordon, daughter of Greenberry Gordon.
