"Mitchell Reed & his family traveled in a covered wagon pulled by two oxen from Bradley Co TN to Cleburne Co AR. The pioneer family decided to make their home at Peter Creek area north of Ida AR. Mitchell built a house, cleared the land and prepared to raise his family. In 1861 Mitchell enlisted in Company C, 1st Arkansas Infantry of the Confederate Army at Jackson Port, Arkansas. He spent his first year in Tupelo MS & left due to illness or injuries on orders from the Surgeon General on July 24, 1862. He never recovered and was laid to rest at his wife's folks place in Tennessee. His wife Manerva was laid to rest at Antioch Cemetery in Cleburne Co AR.
