Another son, Joseph L., is not in the picture. He left home to play baseball and was not heard from or talked about again. It is reported Grandma Una told Pearlie (Jim's wife) - "Don't let Vernon play baseball!"
Uncle Joe Gordon, as he was called by everybody, donated part of the cemetery where he is buried. He also donated land for the church building and the school, both have since been moved.
