Allie Melvina Gordon was the youngest child of Alexander Gordon & Melvina Reed. The following story was related to Sharon Smith by Edith Jackson, Donna Fischer & Mary Harrison.
In the early 1960's Allie Von Ohlen purchased some lakeside property on Lake LBJ located in Llano County Texas. She had a home built on the land & moved there after the death of her second husband.
The property next to hers was undeveloped and had become overgrown with weeds. One day she went to the real estate office to complain about the condition of the property & the office personnel told her it was owned by President Lyndon B. Johnson. She replied "President or no President, it needed to be cleaned up." Eventually some workers arrived to cut the weeds & clean up the property.
One day a limosine pulled up in her driveway and a man knocked on her door & identified himself as a member of the Secret Service. He stated that he had President Johnson in the limosine & that LBJ wanted to know if he could use her bathroom. LBJ stayed awhile that day & visited with her. He noticed that she had a small vegetable garden that overlapped onto his property & he teased her about this and asked for some tomatoes when they ripened. On one other occasion LBJ and his daughter Lucy arrived by helicopter, landed on his vacant property, and visited with Allie.
The last time that LBJ was hospitalized Allie sent him a get well card & letter. He sent her a card dated Apr 24, 1972 asking about the garden & letting her know he was going to visit her again soon. He was never able to return & died Jan 22, 1973 at his home.
