Trustees of University of North Carolina To Enoch MORGAN
This indenture made and entered into this 23rd day of September 1842 between the trustees of the University of North Carolina of the first part and Enoch MORGAN of the second part witnesseth that the party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred & four 25/100 dollars to them in hand paid by the party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have this day bargained, sold & conveyed and by these presents do bargain, sell and convey to the party of the second part and his heirs the following tract or parcel of land heretofore sold by them through Samuel DICKINS their attorney in fact to Harvey L. COBY & by him assigned to the said party of the second part, to wit, the same being a part of a 2560 acre tract granted to the trustees of the University of North Carolina in the 12th surveyors district Entry No. 1140 in Carroll County beginning at a stake & three black oak pointers Israel BARKER's Northeast corner on LOVE's West boundary line of Entry No. 366 running thence North one hundred & sixteen poles to a hickory & two white oak pointers LOVE's Northwest corner thence West two hundred & twenty six poles to a stake spanish oak, and elm pointers thence South one hundred and sixteen poles to a stake spanish & post oak pointers Israel BARKER's Northwest corner thence East two hundred & twenty six poles to the beginning containing by survey one hundred & sixty three & a half acres to be the same more or less to have and to hold the above described land and bargained premises to him the said party of the second part & his heirs forever. And the said party of the first part does hereby covenant to and with the said party of the second part that the right and title to the above described lands and bargained premises they will warrant and defend to him against the claim or claims of all and every person whatsoever In testimony whereof the said party of the first part have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.

State of Tennessee Madison County - Personally appeared before me James D. McCLELLAN Clerk of the County Court of said County the within named bargainor John D. MARTIN with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he executed the within deed as agent for the Trustees of the University of North Carolina for the purposes therein contained. Calvin JONES to John MORGAN
pg 520) Know all men by these presents that I Calvin JONES of Henderson County State of Tennessee for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred dollars to me paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged I have sold & by these presents do sell and convey unto John MORGAN of Carroll County State aforesaid who is the above __ a tract of land in Carrol County of six hundred forty acres by estimation being part of a tract of twenty five hundred and sixty acres granted to me by the State of Tennessee by grant No. 22969 and dated the 4th day of January 1825 which said tract six hundred & forty acres by estimation is bounded as follows, to wit, Beginning at the Southwest corner of the said original tract and running thence North along the West boundary of said tract 439 1/2 poles to a corner thence East along a line of marked trees 233 poles to a corner thence South along a line of marked trees to the South boundary of said tract and thence to the beginning To have and to hold the above described tract of land & all the rihgts and privileges to the same belonging against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever.
