pg 1) At a County Court commenced and held at the Courthouse in the town of Lewisburg in the County of Conway on the first Monday after the fourth Monday in January A.D. 1849 it being the 29th day of said month present the Honorable Moses McCARLEY presiding Judge and William T. GAMBLE and Russell WELBORN term of office having expired an election was held by the Justices of the Peace of said County of Conway present and resulted in the re-election of William T. GAMBLE and Russell WELBORN as Assistant Judges for the time prescribed by law who was sworn and entered upon the discharge of their duties.
Daniel HARRISON filed on the 7th day of November his bond as County Surveyor for the County of Conway which had been taken by the Clerk in vacation, examined by the Court and approved.
Now on this day comes Edwin ADAMS and proves to the Court that __ __ posted by him on the 19th day of January 1848 has dec'd before the twelve months expired and prays for relief.
The Court after due deliberation ordered the bond of said Edwin ADAMS be and is hereby cancelled and therein the Clerk record the same cancelled.

pg 2) James H. COWART and Widow WHITEHEAD's to Clinton lying in Lick Mountain township be designated as Road District No. Two of Lick Mountain township. And it is further ordered by the Court that William PATE be and is hereby appointed Overseer of Road District No. Two of Lick Mountain township. And it is further ordered by the Court that Johnson BENNETT and R.B. GORDON Esqrs apportion hands to the several Overseers of Lick Mountain township.
Hardin township is by order of the Court designated as one road district. And it is further ordered by the Court that John PLANT be and is hereby appointed Overseer of all roads in Hardin township. And it is further ordered by the Court that John W. GILBERT and George W. SHAW Esqrs apportion hands to the Overseer of Hardin township. Road Districts in Benton township.
Now on this day it is ordered by the court that all roads East of a line from North to South crossing at the Precinct be designated as Road District No. One of Benton township. And it is further ordered by the Court that Alexander ROGGINS be and is hereby appointed Overseer of Road District No. One of Benton township.

Now on this day it is ordered by the Court that all of that part of a road from RAGSDALE's Gin to Clinton lying in Lick Mountain township be designated as Road District No. One of Lick Mountain and it is further ordered that Thomas J. WILLIAMS be and is hereby appointed overseer of Road District No. One of Lick Mountain township.

pg 11) Now on this day it is ordered by the Court that the sum of five dollars be levied as a tax for the priviledge of keeping a ferry across the Arkansas River at Lewisburg and the following rates of ferriage shall be collected by the ferryman keeping said ferry, to wit,
For 4 horses, an oxen & waggon--1.00
For 2 horses, an oxen and waggon----.75
Man and horse--.25
Each single loose horse & each head of herd cattle--.10
Each head of sheep or hogs--.03
Each single man--.10
For in case of high water one half of the above rates to be added to the charge rates and that the Clerk issue a license

July 29, 1849
pg 25) Whereupon said report was received by the court and ordered of record. And it is further ordered by the court that the Overseer of the District in which said road runs shall proceed to cut out and open said road not less than fifteen feet wide and said road from that town as designated to be a public highway.
Now on this day William B. BROWN filed a petition from several citizens of Benton township praying the Court to appoint viewers to view and mark out a road beginning at Jonathan HARDIN and running the best & most practical route to the County line of Conway leading to Clinton in Van Buren County which petition was received by the Court.
And it is therefore ordered by the Court that John WOOD, Hillary PLANT and Stephen McCLURE be and was hereby appointed viewers to view and mark out said road and that they meet at the house of Jonathan HARDIN's on the first Monday in September next and first being duly sworn proceed to view and mark out said road leading to town and make report of same at the next term of the Court.
John QUINDLEY filed on the fifth day of June his bond as Collector of the Revenue for Conway County which bond had been presented to the Judge of the County Court in vacation and affixed and presented to the Court and approved.
pg 26) Now on this day it is ordered by the Court that there should be levied and collected from Hiram L. ALLEN the sum of ten dollars as a tax for the priviledge of keeping a public ferry across the Cadron Creek at WILSON's old ferry for the term of one year from this date and that he enter into bond to the County in the sum of five hundred dollars for the faithful performance of public ferryman and that the Clerk issue a license herein. And it is further ordered by the Court that said ALLEN shall receive the following rate of ferrying across said Cadron Creek to wit,
For crossing four horse coaches - $1.00
For crossing two horse coaches - .75
For crossing two horse pleasure carriage - .75
For crossing cart with two oxen or horses - .25
For crossing each additional horse or oxen - .13 1/2
For crossing man and horse - .12 1/2
For crossing each head of hog or sheep - .3
For crossing two horse carriage on springs same rate as pleasure carriages

Now on this day it is ordered by the Court that there should be levied and collected from James CAMPBELL the sum of five dollars as a tax for the priviledge of keeping a toll bridge across Point Remove Creek at his residence for the term of twelve months from this date and that presented into bond to the County on the sum of four hundred dollars for the performance

Robert B. GORDON files a claim against the County for the sum of nine dollars and fifty cents for Justices fees, Constable fees and witness fees in the Court of Examination whereas the State of Arkansas was plaintiff and Sidney STRATTON defendant which was examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
David SCHNIMPSHEAR filed this day his claim against the County for the sum of six dollars for viewing and marking out a road in Benton & Muddy Bayou township and making report of the same, examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
Edward CARGILE files his claim this day against the County for the sum of four dollars for viewing and marking out a road in Benton & Muddy Bayou townships, examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
Now on this day comes Edward J. MORRILL by attorney and files a petition praying the Court to grant him a license to keep a grocery in the town of Lewisburg for the term of twelve months. The Court after consideration ordered that the said Edward J. MORRILL shall have the priviledge of retailing spirtous liquors in quantities less than one quart in the town of Lewisburg and execute all the priviledges of a

Elijah WELBORN filed this day his claim against the County for the sum of one dollar for services in _ hands to work on road in WELBORN township, examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
Now on this day comes to Conway County by J.W. COMSTOCK for ___ ___ and files his motion in writing and moves the Court to reject the report of Robert B. GORDON, John W. GILBERT and John H. FRYER Commissioners to locate the seat of Justice of Conway County for reasons in said motion mentioned. And the Court after due consideration thereof ___said motion. And it is thereupon ordered by the Court that the report of said Robert B. GORDON, John W. GILBERT and John H. FRYER Commissioners to locate the seat of Justice of Conway County filed here in open Court on the fourth day of November A.D. 1850 be seconded and __ of record which is in its following words and figures to wit,
pg 85) To the Honorable County Court of Conway County We Robert B. GORDON, John W. GILBERT and John H. FRYER Commissioners elected and appointed to locate the seat of Justice for Conway County in the State of Arkansas beg leave respectfully to report to your honorable body, hereafter being commissioned and qualified on the 31st day of July 1849 we did advertise as the law directs to meet at Lewisburg the present seat of Justice fifteen days thereafter and did accordingly and proceed from thence to select a suitable site to locate upon. And after different attempts to locate did finally agree on the 29th day of June 1850 to locate upon Section 11 in township 7, Range 15 it being near center of the territory of said County as it now stands. The land on which we located was donated to the County by L.W. PORTER, E.W. ADAMS and A. ___ to the amount of twenty two acres and sixteen hundredths which land we have had subsequently surveyed into 112 lots and after duly advertising to sell said lots we did accordingly sell on the 21 and 22 of October 1850, and sold 59 lots for $778.87 1/2 which sum is well secured by notes with approved security and the

We would further state that we have a comfortable courthouse 16 feet by 18 well sealed with plank and floor laid with a Clerks office attached sixteen by 8 feet and would respectfully invite the honorable Court of Conway County to said County seat which we have called Springfield. All of which is respectfully submitted this 4th day of November 1850.

It is therefore ordered by the Court that this Court and all other Courts held in this County shall hereafter be held at the Courthouse prepared by said Commissioners in the town of Springfield, the seat of Justice of Conway County. And that the Clerk of Conway County is hereby ordered to remove the books, papers, seals and furniture belonging to the Clerk's office of said Conway County to the town of Springfield the seat of Justice of Conway County as required by law and that all processes hereafter be returned to said seat of justice and it is further ordered by the Court that the title deeds of the land

John W. GILBERT filed this day in open Court his claim against this County for the sum of twenty six dollars for services rendered as Commissioner to locate the seat of Justice of Conway County which is examined by the Court, ordered to be paid.
Robert B. GORDON filed his claim this day against the County for the sum of forty six dollars for services rendered as Commissioner to locate the seat of Justice of Conway County which was examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
John H. FRYER filed his claims this day against the County for the sum of twenty five dollars for services rendered as Commissioner to locate the seat of Justice for Conway County which was examined by the Court and orderd to be paid.
pg 88) R.C. FRYER filed this day his claim against the County for the sum of six dollars and twelve and a half cents for fees due him in certain State cases in said claim mentioned which was examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
Lazarus MAXWELL files this day his claim against the County for the sum of four dollars fees ___ as assistant Judge of this Court which was examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
Cyrus MAXWELL filed this day his claim against the County for the sum of four dollars for services as assistant Judge of this Court which was examined by the Court & ordered to be paid.
Now on this day comes Robert B. GORDON, John W. GILBERT and John H. FRYER Commissioners to locate the seat of Justice of Conway County and on their motion is so ordered by the Court that they be empowered to settle with L.W. PORTER for the building, the temporary courthouse in Springfield, the seat of Justice located by them and that they report the same to this County.

pg 97) amounting to the sum of $3.60 county tax $6.40 which tracts of land had been entered on the tax book twice thereupon ___ the court a fee due ___ ___ ___ ___ John QUINDLEY ___ a ___ on the ___books of Conway County for the amount of the $6.40 county tax on said tracts of land and that the clerk certify this ___ to the ___ ___.
Now on this day comes J.W. COMSTOCK __, Hawkins GREGORY __ __ in behalf of the citizens of Conway County and moves the Court to set aside the order made by this Court on yesterday that this Court and all other Courts held in this County should hereafter be held at the Courthouse proposed by Robert B. GORDON, John W. GILBERT and John H. FRYER Commissioners to locate the seat of Justice of Conway County in the town of Springfield at said seat of Justice and that the Clerk of Conway County should remove the books, papers and furniture belonging to the Clerks office to said town of Springfield as required by law. And moves the Court to take a reconsideration of said order.
The Court after due consideration thereof and being fully advised of the law in the premises ___ that said order made by this ___ yesterday as aforesaid

Now on this day comes Jonathan HARDIN of Conway County and files his petition setting forth that the travelling community comes under great disadvantage in crossing of Muddy Bayou at the crossing of said bayou of the public road leading from Little Rock to Van Buren and Searcy Counties and asks the Court to grant him the priviledge of building a toll bridge at the aforedescribed place, it being in Conway County. The Court after due consideration thereof ordered that said Jonathan HARDIN have the priviledge of building a toll bridge across Muddy Bayou at the aforedescribed place and receive for crossing said bridge the following rates of tolls to wit,

For crossing 2 horse wagon 35 cents
For crossing 1 horse wagon 25 cents
For one yoke oxen & cart 25 cents

pg 109) At a County Court began and held at the Courthouse in the town of Lewisburg in the County of Conway in the State of Arkansas on the first Monday after the fourth Monday in January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty one present the Honorable James CAMPBELL Judge of the County & Probate Court of Conway County. And also the following named Justices of the Peace for said County appeared to wit, Lewis STOCKTON, E.Y. HOGUE, J.W. GILBERT, Elias STONE, R. WELBORN, L. PORTER, R.C. FRYER and R.B. GORDON. It is therefore ordered by the Court that the Treasurer of Conway County draw upon the State Treasury in favor of E. MORRILL for the sum of nine dollars and ninety nine cents which when paid shall be granted in full for all claims which the County of Conway has against the State of Arkansas for taxes paid unto the State Treasury for lands sold or redeemed during the year 1850. And it is further ordered by the Court that the said sum of nine dollars and ninety nine cents be and is hereby appropriated to the said E. MORRILL for the purpose of buying stationary for the use of the clerk's office of the County.

SMITH their attorney comes into Court and files their motion in writing and moves the Court to make an order that the Clerk of this Court for the County of Conway to remove to the town of Springfield in said County of Conway all books, records and papers in his office within thirty days previous __ __ of this Court __ __ appears by said motion filed.
And E.Y. HOGUE, Asa REID, L.W. PORTER, John W. GILBERT, Robert B. GORDON Justices of Peace for Conway County being present and taking a seat on the bench and forming a part of the said Court on this motion with the presideing Judge and Russel WELBORN and N.M. STRONG Justices of the Peace for said Conway County who was summoned to assist in holding this Court at the commencement thereof by order of the presiding Judge. And the Court being thus organized after hearing arguments of Counsel and having sufficiently advised of the law in the premises, a majority of the Court thus organized sustained said motion.

CARGILE Commissioners to locate the seat of Justice for Conway County by their attorney and presented to the Court the report of the Commissioners which is in the words and figures following, to wit, To the honorable County Court of Conway County - Robert B. GORDON, John H. FRYER and R.L. CARGILE Commissioners elected and appointed to locate the seat of Justice for Conway County in the State of Arkansas beg leave respectfully to report to your honorable body that after being commissioned and qualified on the 20th day of July 1849 we did advertise as the law directs to meet at Lewisburg the present seat of Justice fifteen days thereafter and did meet accordingly and proceeded from thence to select a suitable site to locate upon and after different attempts to locate did finally agree on the 29th day of June 1850 to locate the seat of Justice for Conway County upon Section No. 11 in township No. 7 in Range No. 15 West, it being near the center of the territory of said County as it now stands the land on which we located was donated to the County by L.W. PORTER, E.W. ADAMS and A. HAYS to the amount of twenty two acres and sixteen hundredths what land we have subsequently surveyed into 112 lots and after duly advertising to sell said lots we did accordingly settle on the 21st and 22nd of Oct 1850 59 lots for $778.87 which sum is well secured by noted with approved security and there remains to be sold 53 lots. We would further state that we have a comfortable Courthouse 16 feet by 18 well sealed with plank and floors with

The Court after consideration thereof ordered that said claim be accepted and approved and that the clerk of this Court pay the same to Thomas D. RAGSDALE.
This day it is ordered by the Court that the Military Road commencing at the Cadron Creek and thence to the Welborn township line be and is hereby designated as Road District No. One of Cadron township.

pg 255) Now on this day by a petition of the citizens of Conway County which has been filed in open Court asking the Court to appoint John W. GRIFFIN County Commissioner in place of R.B. GORDON deceased and the Court after due consideration thereof ordered that John W. GRIFFIN be appointed County Commissioner of Conway County in place of R.B. GORDON deceased and file his bond as such.
Now on this day John W. GRIFFIN filed his bond as County Commissioner of Conway County which bond has hereby been presented to the Court, examined, approved and ordered to be placed on file.
Now on this day comes Calvin CALLAHAN into open Court by attorney and and filed his petition praying the Court to grant him a license for the purpose of retailing spiritous liquors in the town of Springfield in quantities less than one quart and that said license ___ on the seventh day of July 1853.
The Court after due consideration thereof ordered that Calvin CALLAHAN have the priviledge of keeping a grocery in the town of Springfield in said County of Conway and retail spiritous liquors in quantities less than one quart for the term of twelve months for the seventh day of July 1853 by paying into the County Treasury the sum of ten dollars and that the Clerk issue a license therein.

May 3, 1853 Tuesday
pg 269) Now on this day comes A.A. EATON in to Court and presented his account for stationary furnished clerk the amount of one dollar and sixty cents which account was examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.

May 4, 1853 Wednesday
pg 269) Wednesday morning May 4th 1853.
Court met pursuant to adjournment present same as on yesterday.
Now on this day comes the County Commissioners elected and appointed to locate the County seat of said County and presented a petition asking the Court to grant them an order to sell the lots in the town of Springfield belonging to the County of Conway and it is this day ordered by the County Court that R.B. GORDON, N.W. MOORE and Tillman HOGUE
pg 270) Commissioners to locate the County seat of said County proceed to advertise and sell according to law all the lots laid off for the town of Springfield remaining unsold on the first day of the next regular term of this Court.
Now on this day by motion it is ordered by the court that James ROBERTS be and is hereby appointed Overseer of Road District No. Nine of Welborn township in place of C.W. HARRISON released.
Now on this day comes R.L. CARGILE Sheriff of Conway County and showeth to this Court he had not time to make out his assessment ___ file according to law and request to the Court to grant him further time. And it is this day ordered by the Court that said R.L. CARGILE have further time to file and advertise the same.
Now on this day J. MOSES Clerk of Conway County filed his claim against the County for the sum fifty five dollars and ninety six cents for services rendered as set forth in said claim which was examined by the Court and ordered to be paid.
Now on this day the clerk of Conway County presented to the court an account against the clerk for the sum of sixteen dollars and fifty cents for priviledges as recorder and it is further ordered by the court that the clerk pay over to the Sheriff the sum of sixteen dollars and fifty cents and charge him with ___ ___.

Feb 1, 1854
pg 317) All roads in Hardin township North and East of Muddy Bayou in Hardin township except the new road leading from Springfield to Sercy White County be and the same is hereby designated Road District No. Two of Hardin township. And it is further ordered by the Court that W.W. Mc__ be and is hereby appointed Overseer of Road District No. Two of Hardin township and it is further ordered by the Court that __ Esqr apportion the hands to said Overseer.
The road then leading from Springfield to Sercy White County commencing at the Union township line and running to the Muddy Bayou township line be designated as Road District No. Three of Hardin township. And it is further ordered by the Court Anthony HINKLE be and is hereby appointed Overseer of Road District No Three of Hardin township. And it is further ordered by the Court that __ MABRY Esqr apportion the hands to said Overseer.
Now on this day the administrator of R.B. GORDON deceased by attorney presented their account against the County for the sum of forty two dollars for the services rendered by R.B. GORDON as
pg 318) County Commissioner of Conway County. The Court after due examination of said account ordered that the amount of twenty five dollars be allowed and the clerk pay to said administrator the same in County scrip.

Now on this day it is ordered by the Court that F.J. PORTER, Jonathan WELLS Sr and Elisha HARRIS be and is hereby appointed Judges of all elections held in Welborn township for and during the time prescribed by law.
Now on this day it is ordered by the Court that William T. BORDON, Charles ADAMS and Henry BENEDICT be and is hereby appointed Judges of all elections held in Cadron township for and during the time prescribed by law.
Now on this day it is ordered by the court that Samuel GLENN, A HOWARD and Matthew ___ be and is hereby appointed judges of all elections held in ___ for and during the time prescribed by law.

Apr 2, 1854
pg 407) The Court after due consideration and being advised of the previous Court order a view of said road and do hereby appoint Peter KUYKENDALL, Henry BENADICT and Eli EATON viewers to view and mark out said road and to meet at the residence of Elias STONE Esqr on the eleventh day of May next 1855 and after being duly sworn proceed to view and mark out said road and make their report to the next term of this Court.
This day it is ordered by the Court that the following named persons were elected and appointed by the County Court to serve as grand jurors at the September term of the Circuit Court of Conway County A.D. 1855.
