The Chute Family Farm in Berwick, Nova Scotia. Original Caption: "Probably built 1817-1818* by Abram Chute and Mehitabul
[Mehitable] Foster. Land originally farmed by French Acadians who
were forced out. People from New England states came and received land grants of 500 acres or so. They were refered to as
"Planters". [*Jackie's note: William Edward Chute's records state that Thomas Ansley Chute bought this farm from his
father in 1817, which suggests that the farmhouse may be older, unless portions of it were rebuilt later. James Perry
Chute, Thomas's son, had already begun to work full-time on the farm, according to the Taylor Family, in 1886.] |
