Changes or additions have been made to the following files:
Thomas Chute and Eliza Williams Chute,   Rowena Chute and John Atkinson,   Francis Chute and Alice Maud Chute,   William Burleigh Chute,   Frank Lyndon Chute, and Mabel Ruth Taft Chute,   Dorothy Louise Chute, and Everett Duane Sorenson,   Robert John Chute, and Elizabeth Higgins Chute,   Marvin Albert Chute, and Pauline Ruth Wilcox Chute,   Alfred Edwin Hawes, and Clarissa Prentiss Patridge Hawes,   Abel Hawes, and Cynthia Leland Hawes,   Captain John Howard Graham, and Lois Hayden Chute Graham,   Sir George Chute, and Ann Barnham Chute,   Sir George Chute and Margaret Welford Chute,   Sir George Chute and (Given name unknown) Evans,   George Edward Chute and Myrtle Lucy Bennett Chute,   Eusebius Chute and Mary ("Maria") Bernard Chute,   George Chute and Elizabeth Gilbert Chute,   George Chute and Elizabeth Gilbert Chute,   John Gilbert and Mary Street Gilbert,   John Gilbert and Alice Hopkins Gilbert,   John Gilbert and Winnifred Rossiter Gilbert,   George Chute and Jane Hickey Chute,   George Chute and Phaemia/Florentia Herbert Chute,   George Chute from Bridgewater Somerset (UK) to Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey in the 1670's,

You'll also note that I've begun trying to identify the various individuals all with the same first name, by location and spouses - for example, if you look at the "George Chute" entries on the Index list, if the entries are not easily identifyable by a middle name or life span, I've added names of spouses or locations after the entry, for easier identification.

"George" being one of those given names the family enjoys using - over and over and over again - I started there. In the works: doing the same thing with the Edwards, Elizabeths and Johns.

Speaking of George's, the George Chute from Drennan, Drumbo, Down Ireland, married to either Phaemia or Florentia Herbert, is an interesting entry inasmuch as his father is named as "Pierce Chute". Chutes named "Pierce" are interesting, as a long line of Australian Chutes claim Pierce as their ancestor, but in the primary "Chute Hall" line, we were seriously running out of "Pierce"s who might have fathered their line; it appears we've found another one. Naturally, no mention of a wife in the record, though, so I can't even guess which "Pierce Chute" this one is.

There is another record of a George Chute marrying a Jane Hickey in Waterford, Ireland - and THAT record is also interesting because the Arthur Chute who married a Helena Ridgeway a generation earlier was also from Waterford. That in itself is interesting because their daughter Jane was named in full "Jane Burleigh Chute", and the name "Burleigh" will also appear in the record of William Burleigh Chute, who lives in Fiji.

And speaking of Australians, we've heard from Anthony Ick, a descendant of Francis Tolmie Ick and Ellen Chute, so can perhaps flesh out that record with more information.

Last note on the George's: there are four of them, all recorded as living in basically the same area, during the same relative time frame. For one, we have record of a George Chute marrying an Elizabeth Gilbert in the Taunton, Somerset area (no children listed); for another George Chute, we have record of a daughter named Elizabeth being born in London, no wife listed; for the third George Chute, we have him starting out in Bridgewater, Somerset, Great Britain and dying in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey in 1679; the fourth George Chute is Lionel Chute, Jr.'s brother, also named George. Some of them may overlap (i.e., the George with wife Elizabeth Gilbert may also be the father of Elizabeth), but we need more information on all of them.

Lionel and George must have, at the very least, shared the same invisible rowboat getting over to the American Colonies, as there doesn't seem to be a record of ANY Chute, Lionel, Rose, James, Nathaniel or George, as a passenger in that 1630-1670's time frame - and it's astounding that everyone so far with the surname "Chute" managed to avoid getting recorded. Personally, I'm beginning to suspect they all swam over.

Those with Gedcoms might went to get out pencils and erasers on this one: I've added the Descendants of James Pearce and Elizabeth Foster to the web site, courtesy of the Pierce family ... beginning with James' grandson Charles Almer Pierce, recorded as being the third husband of already recorded Lovina or Lavinia Clarissa Morse, whose first husband was Abram Chute Potter, son of Lucinda Chute and John Douglas Anthony Potter.

The daughter of Abram Chute Potter and Lavinia Clarissa Morse, Kizbro F. Potter, married Howard Elisha Pierce, the son Charles Almer and his first wife, Edith Lucilla MacKenna.

The couple's second son, Frank Lovett Pierce and wife Annie Woodworth Pierce, had a daughter, Edith Marie Pierce, who married Mark Henry Chute, son of Henry Dunn Chute.

Speaking of which, the family of Henry Dunn Chute and his wife have been updated to reflect her corrected name as "Florance or Florence Mae Clayton", and not as simply "May Clayton" as earlier recorded. Her family has also been added to the records. Their children, previously unrecorded, have been added to the web site as well.

I've also added another Australian, John Henry Chute, to the various indices, but beyond his occupation, don't know anything more about him or his family.

Combining the records of the Oddy family and the Camp Family has aided in constructing the preliminary records of the Australian James Henry Chute, Sr. and James Henry Chute, Jr. families of Australia. The reason this family is of interest is the similarity of names between the Macready Chute line, and the Oddy and Camp families' origins in Brighton, Sussex, Great Britain - where, of course, the Macready-Chute family also resided, among other places - I've contacted one one of their descendants to see if they have further information on this particular family.

Information from Rodney Cecil Chute has helped to clear up the confusion on his mother, Helen Mae Slater Chute:

"First, let's clear up the Chute-Hewins thing, Ellen Chute (my father's sister and a daughter of James Wellington) married Ernest Hewins. They had a son Coral Ernest Hewins. Coral was Helen Slater's first husband. Coral was accidently shot and died as a result of the wound leaving Helen with three young children Walter Thomas, Donald Coral, and Virginia Eldora.

This is where my father came in (now you have to realize that Coral and Ray were first cousins.) My father was 20 years older than my mother and I am sure it was for convenience on my mother's part, I am sure my father loved her. All three of the children grew up treating Ray as their father. Helen divorced my father in the late forties. Shortly thereafter she married Hartley [Thomas] Fowler. Now here we go again: Rebecca O. Fowler, my grandmother and the wife of James Wellington, is Hartley's aunt. So my step-dad and I were actually second cousins.

Next step is to put the Fowler family tree together in the midst of this, as Havelock General Chute, another son of James Wellington Chute, also married a Fowler. And I still haven't figured out who James Wellington Chute's daughter "Jean" is - she was the daughter that Garfield Edward Chute wrote about in his letter.

Edna Frances Chute and Linwood Claude Gove, courtesy of Jim Smith's Genealogy on Ancestry.com, the marriage date of Laura Grace Chute and husband Hazen W. Danforth, Jr., and information from the Balch and Wilder families have contributed to the records of George Washington Chute III and Annette Elizabeth Wilder Chute. I've connected the sketch of "George Washington Chute" in William Edward Chute's Chute Genealogies to George III ... but I'd prefer to have someone in that family line confirm that my guess is correct.

Allied family information for the spouse of Ella Augusta Chute (also known as Ellen Augusta on some databases) has been added to the records - her husband was William Henry Heath. Data has also been added to the records of Mary Ellen ("Nellie") Chute and husband John Irvin Peckham. The Allied Family information has shed some light on information provided by the Sun Prarie Historical Society, referring to her as "Mother of Parden" without explanation. Her husband's father (Pardon Lawrence Peckham) may have been the inspiration for the name of a son born to the couple, but there is no record of him yet.

Thanks to the Caverly Family, records have been changed in the Allied family records of Ellen Jane Chute. Her husband had been recorded as "Sanford Cavalry"; his name, in fact, was John Sandford Caverly; Ellen was one of his three recorded wives - without marriage dates, I'm unable to ascertain which wife came first - one database has her listed first; another as third. There did not appear to be any children of this marriage, however.

Another addition to the Australian index: a George Chute with wife Mary Brennan, whose daughter Ellen Ann Chute married Francis Tolmie Ick. Needless to say, this family probably has Irish connections as well, and as Anthony Ick created the original database, I'm hoping he can shed some light on this branch.

Albion Chute Family

Back in 1993, a visitor's card appeared in the collection plate at my parents' church in Newport, Rhode Island - and was promptly handed to my Dad, as the minister assumed the card had been completed by one of his relatives. Which it was, but he'd never met them: the card had been placed there by David Augustus Chute and his wife Ruth Frances Morin Chute. They were visiting from Cotuit, Massachusetts, and were just "passing through". Needless to say, my Dad hunted them down immediately, surprise and delight erupted on both sides, and a lengthy genealogical discussion ensued - I mean, really: how many of us run across other people named "Chute" in the course of our daily lives without being directly related to them or hunting them down deliberately?

Back in Massachusetts, Ruth dug up a family history she'd had since 1981. It had been written by Meribah Elizabeth Keefe Brown, the daughter of James William Keefe and Gracie Alberta Chute. I don't know if she called herself "Meb", but she signed her letters that way - making it somewhat difficult to figure out who she was! She had sent this fam/8ily history to a niece, Rosanna Niles Chute, daughter of Dr. James Lemuel Chute, among others

Ruth mailed it to my parents in 1993; they recently moved and found it among their papers -- which is why I just received it, almost 10 years later. This family history is about 20 pages long, and will be added to the web site slowly over the next several weeks.

Included with the Chute history was another: "The Children of Kimball Carleton and Nancy Tapley Carleton", compiled by Worrall D. Prescott, who I believe to be a Carleton descendant. James Albion Chute's wife's maiden name was not Mary Carleton Smith, as originally recorded, but Mary Teresa Smith - Captain John Emery Carleton was her first husband. The Carleton allied family data has been added to the web site - the Carleton history also contained Chute biographical information.

One of our UFO's has been solved: William Chute dropped a line to let us know that UFO Dr. Cheryl Chute-Miller Ph.D. was his niece, Cheryl Ann Chute, one of the four daughters of Robert Edward Chute and Gail Patenaude, originally from Edison, New Jersey. Dr. Chute is an associate professor in mathematics at SUNY Potsdam.

Various - Local Events Calendar Addition

Birth and death information has been added to the records for Lois Gertrude Edwards and her husband Ralph Vernon Fullwiler. More data has been added to the records of Vera May Trask Chute, who was the wife of Morley Cecil Chute, thanks to descendant Brian Slough, and data has been added to the family of Carl Douglas Chute, thanks to granddaughter Deana Chute.

Eugene V. Barnes, a direct descendant of Nathaniel Barnes, father of Sarah Barnes and Samuel Chute, has provided additional data on the Barnes family, which has been added to the web site.

Changes have been made to the records for Raymond Theodore Lavoine and Athalia Mae Chute. I had all sorts of questions about this family, stemming from the 1930 Census - none of their "first marriage dates" matched, and I couldn't figure out who their 6-year old "boarder" Alfred McNamara was -- thanks to granddaughter Debra Scott for clearing the confusion up; Alfred was the son of Athalia's first marriage which hadn't been recorded ... Debra is probably regretting deeply posting on the Chute message board, I've been bombarding her with so many questions!

The granddaughter of Rodney Cecil Chute, Meghan Elizabeth Chute, wrote an essay about him for a highschool English writing project - if you want to read a really beautiful tribute written by a granddaughter for her grandfather ... you have to read this one - it has been added to his notes section. I'm hoping she inspires an entire generation of Chute grandchildren to do the same thing. Have any snowbound and bored kids at home? Hand them a pen and paper and put them to work!

Meghan, despite evidence of her tremendous writing talent, does not appear in our records, however. This is because Grandpa Chute has been so overwhelmed by her tribute, he forgot to fill out a family data worksheet on son Dennis Rodney, to whom Meghan belongs, so I've put him back to work filling that out! (I expect it back shortly, and Meghan will be appearing any day now).

I'm also expecting a worksheet back on his mom, Helen Slader (or Slater) Hewins Chute, as she apparently had two or three husbands - Hewins, Chute and Fowler. As a result, the Hewins and the Chutes are inextricably intertwined up there in Maine, to the point where they're having a family reunion in August of this year, complete with a "Meet & Greet", a luncheon, lots of games and even best of all, a "Talent Show"! So those of you who claim the Hewins and Chute families of Maine as your relatives ... brush up on that talent of yours that got you in so much trouble back in elementary school, and look for information in the "Local and Regional Events Calendar" section, which has just been added to the Index Page.

(The rest of us have our fingers crossed that someone remembers to take a camera.)

If anyone else has local/regional family events they'd like to announce, just send the information in and I'll add it to the calendar. If you need RSVP's for your event, be sure to include a contact.
