In 1901 he was living in a farm house in Carrington Lane, Ashton upon Mersey, aged 55, a farmer (employed). He still had at this time his wife and all of his children with him albeit several in their 20's.
He was shown as "A farmer, Mersey Farm" in the Kelly's Directory of Cheshire, 1902. At this time there is no record found of his death.
Esther was still living with her father ,James Hodcroft, in 1871 aged 41. At this time she had 2x children, Margaret Alice 5, and Mary Ellen 9. She marries in 1872 to Philip Potts and goes on to have more children.
They lived in 1881 at Weathercock Farm, Ashton upon Mersey, and Philip Potts 58, is a farmer of 15 acres
Most notable is that on her marriage registration, she is called ALDCROFT though in the following census of 1881 her children prior to getting married are still called Hodcroft.
Joseph moved to Sale and about 1870 married Martha (suname unknown) working as a stone masons' labourer in 1881 and as a gardener aged 63, in 1891. Martha was a laundress. They had a daughter, Martha E. Hodcroft in 1881.
Alice married in 1868 to Charles Kelsall at Manchester Cathedral (formerly Manchester Collegiate Church). In 1871 Charles is a farm labourer and they live at Brunswick street, Stretford, with sons James Hodcroft 10, and Arthur Kelsall 1.
In 1881 they are living at Trafford Grove, and have another son George b. 1874. In 1891 they are still a complete family living at Trafford Grove. Charles 57, is a farm servant, and Arthur 21, is a paddler (? Should this be "Saddler" ?) This is the time that, towards the end of the 19th century, industrialization arrives in Stretford.
1901 shows Alice 69, and Charles 65, with son George 27, living at Watson street, Stretford. Charles aged 65 is a general labourer and George is a saddler.
