Deed Book 2, Brunswick County, VA:
The land sold in 1762 (record 4) joined Richard Berry, Benjamin Jones, Henry Parish, John Lambart and Nicholas Lewis. This list can be reconciled pretty well with the list for the Jones-Edloe sale using Bradley's abstracts. Richard Berry is on both lists. William Christie sold land on Red Oak Run to Edward Lewis in 1760. Philip Swanson sold land on Red Oak Creek to John Lambert in Jan 1762. Henry Parrish patented 188 acres joining Lambart, Lewis and Brown in 1759. Peter Jones and wife Dionisia sold land on the North side of Hickory Run to Benjamin Jones in 1761 (Peter Jones bought this land from Thomas Brown in 1759 – it joined Richard Berry). The only unexplained difference is the substitution of Nicholas Lewis for Edward Lewis.
"Edward LEWIS (mark) of St Andrew(s) Parish in Brunswick Co to Sarah JONES of said parish. 18 Jan 1764. L23 VA. 100 acres on the lower side of Red Oak Creek, joining William REYNALD (sic), William & Jesse CHRISTIE. Wit: Hugh WILLIAMS, Lewelling JONES, James JONES. Proved 23 Jan 1764. John ROBINSON CC."

16 Mar 1768: Isaac Ramsey and Sarah, his wife, of Colleton County South Carolina to William Martin for 200 pounds, sold 100 acres in Berkley County South Carolina on Ninety Six branch of the Saluda River. Said land originally granted 17 June 1763 to James Johnson & sold by James Johnson and Sarah, his wife, to Isaac Ramsey by L&R 9 &10 December 1763. S/Isaac Ramsey, Sarah (R) Ramsey. Wit: ELisha (X) Brooks, Neome (N) Wood, William Christie, who swore by oath 17 Mar 1768 before John Savage, J.P. Rcd. 17 Mar 1790.
From Janet Christie:
Page 143 of the Winton County SC Minutes of County Court and Will Book 1, 1785-1791, by Brent Holcomb, 1978 reads that William Christie of Berk(Berke) County, GA received 35 pds. sterling from John Collins of Winton County, a likely Negro fellow named Quaucoand one likely negro girl named Priss, daughter to same fellow - dated January 11, 1786. Burke County was just acroos the Savannah River from Barnwell County. At a court held for Winton County at a place call'd the Big House on Tuesday the 16th October 1787, the preceding Bill of sale for a Negro fellow named Quauco and Negro girl named Pris from William Christie to John Collins was proved by the oath of Stephen Collins and ordered to lay over for further proof."
In county court on November 4, 1788, it was "ordered that Wm Christie give bond and security to deliver up Dick, Sarah and Prince in double the sum of the judgment and to remain in custody till the same is complied with." Two days later, "Jno. Green, Esq. vs Willm. Christie, came into court and acknowledged themselves indebted to Elijah Gillett, Esq. High Sheriff in the sum of 250 pds. to be void on the delivery of the Negroes, Viz. Sarah, Prince and Dick. Taken by the virtue of execution at the suit of Jacob Swicord.
The next day William appeared on the court docket as "Wm. Davis vs Wm. Christie-Continued." On August 6, 1789, Swicord vs Christie Ordered that the right of property in the Negroes be tried by the jury..The jury...do say, "We find for the Defendant Christie, the Negroes mentioned in the declaration to be his property and the plaintiff to pay costs of suit." NOTE: James Joice sat on this jury--one of his descendants (Ethel Mae Lee) would marry a descendant of William Christie (Harry Christie) in 1933.
William lost his case against Wm. Vince--the jury found for the plaintiff and Christie was ordered to pay 39 pds. 1 shilling and 3 pence plus court costs and ordered that property attached be sold to satisfy the judgment and the cost.
In 1785, William Christie was granted 400 acres in Burke County (Book HHH, page 72) and two grants of 100 acres each in same county in 1789, (Book RRR, page 114)
