Arrenah Wheless Obituary
The Thomaston Times, Friday, February 18, 1898, page 2:
In Memory - Death has again visited our home and removed from us our mother, Mrs. Arrenah Wheless. She was born September 10th, 1820, died February 12th, 1898, of pneumonia. She was married to H. J. Wheless December 20th, 1842, and, together they have lived nearly 56 years. She was of quiet, retiring disposition, devoted to her husband and children, patient in affliction, and faithful to every duty, loving her church and pastor, honoring her Saviour in her daily walk in life. She was a true friend, a good neighbor, and, all who knew her loved her. Her two daughters, Mrs. S. W. Jordan and Mrs. E. L. Hardage, besides many kind friends, were with her and did all that loving hearts and hands and heart-felt prayers could, to make her last days on earth, as comfortable as was in their power. We have lost a counselor and comforter in hours of sadness and distress. Oh! how we miss her. If we only follow her example, there will be "Only a few more sorrows, Only a few more tears," And then we will meet beyond the river, where all is glory, peace and joy, no more sickness, no more death, but happiness forever. Her remains were interred at the family burial ground, one mile East of Waynmanville, on last Sunday morning, at 10 o'clock, amid a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends.

Hardy Jackson Wheless Obituary
The Thomaston Times, Friday, June 14, 1907, page 1:
Death of Mr. Wheeless – Mr. Hardy Jackson Wheeless, one of the oldest and best citizens of Upson County, after an illness of five days, died at 8:20 o'clock, Saturday evening, June 8th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. N. Jordan, in Thomaston, and was buried Sunday afternoon, June 9th, at the family burial grounds near Waynmanville, Ga. All his children were present except Mrs. S. M. Brewer of Valley View, Texas. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter Mrs. Jordan in Thomaston by Rev. Henry F. Branham pastor of the Thomaston Methodist church. Rev. B. R. Birdsong conducted the burial services at the grave. After which Morning Star Lodge of Thomaston, Ga., of which the deceased was a member assisted by Masons from Yatesville and other points, conducted the Masonic services. A large crowd of friends and neighbors attended the burial. Uncle Jack Wheeless, as he was familiarly called, was born in South Carolina, November 22nd, 1820, and came to Georgia when he was about seven years old. He was one of the early members of the Masonic lodge at Culloden, Ga., and was for many years a Stewart of Rock Mount Methodist church. Mr. Wheeless was a fine machinist, and industrious, upright man, a Christian gentleman, and a useful citizen, loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He was blessed with good health during the 86 years of his long life. A truly good man has finished his work and gone to his reward.
An interesting story was told in The Thomaston Times, that Hardy's house and property were spared when the Union Army came through Thomaston. The reason they refused to ransack his belongings and burn his property, was that he had a Masonic symbol mounted on his front porch.

CHRISTIE.— Josiah A.
Josiah A. Christie was born In Hancock county, Ga., on November 21,
1822: was converted at Upson camp ground in 1840, and
joined the Methodist Church, in which communion he lived and loved
for sixty-three years. He quietly passed away at Brother E. L. Owens
near Magnolia, Ark.. September 11,1903. He was married to Miss
Martha A. Griffith, June 10, 1841. They moved to Columbia county.
Ark., in 1854, and were in the organization of Christie Chapel Church.
They had born to them twelve children. Three of them died in infancy
and two in manhood. Seven still live with the wife of his youth. In
hope of a glorious reunion. Uncle Joe, as he was generally called, was
a Mason, and an Odd follow too. He was in the Confederate army, but was
in prison at Rock Island most of the time. His home was the preacher's
home. The writer, and numbers of others, have
enjoyed his hospitality and heard him tell his experience. Is he dead?
No; thank God he still lives in the hearts and lives of his child-
ren. One of his sons. Rev. W W. Christie, is an honored member of the
Little Rock Conference. I believe Uncle Joe is safe in Jesus'
arms, free from all sorrow and care. When Jesus calls his loved ones
home, Uncle Joe will greet them there.
His ex-pastor, R J. Raiford.
