Henry Hollow's Children, miners, builders and the clergy

Four more of Joseph senior's nephews also came to Australia, Henry, Samual, George and Arthur, all sons of Joseph's brother Henry .

Henry Hollow (1836-1904)

Henry Jnr. was a stone mason by profession and while he may have originally migrated to the mines of South Australia the family moved to Melbourne in 1884 and was active in the building trade in Melbourne, establishing the firm Hollow and Sons, Builders. The firm was made up of Henry and his two sons, Henry and Samual and is still in business, run by a descendant of Henry Jnr., Harry Hollow.

Henry HOLLOW was christened on the 03/01/1836 at Redruth and was married to Priscilla GRAY both migrated to Australia on the "Salisbury" with their family. They arrived in S.A. on the 8/1/1879 where they remained until 1884 when they moved to Victoria.

The children of the marriage are as follows:-

Clara HOLLOW b 20/12/1856 Redruth.

Nellie HOLLOW b 1860 Redruth.

Henry HOLLOW b 1863 Redruth.

Samual HOLLOW b 17/06/1865 Redruth.

Arthur Hollow (1842-1933)

Also on the "Salisbury" with his family on 8/1/1879 was Henry's brother Arthur and his family. Arthur Hollow was married to Mary Frances HARVEY (b ~1844) and three children arrived with them in South Australia:

Ernest Henry HOLLOW b 31/3/1878 Redruth

Mabel Ellen HOLLOW b 20/4/1885 was born in South Australia.

Samual Hollow (~1845-1890)

Samual HOLLOW was born about 1845 he died in 1890 aged 45 years he was married to Jane BROWN and they had four children :-

Edgar John HOLLOW b ~1873 d 1926 Melbourne

Mildred Jane HOLLOW b 1875 Melbourne

Emma Louise HOLLOW b 1878 Carlton

Cyril Henry HOLLOW b 1880 Chiltern.

It seems he may have spent some time in the Eldorado - Chiltern area, his fourth child's birth was recorded at Chiltern and their a reference to a Samual Hollow in the Eldorado Lodge records as the purchaser of two picks for 3/- in 1881.

George Hollow (~1847-1922)

George HOLLOW was born about 1847 (d 1922 at Brighton, aged 75) and was married to Mary Jane (Anne?) NICHOLLS. They migrated to Australia on the ship "Hydraspies" in September 1870. They were to have four children.

Victor Sydney HOLLOW b 1880 Carlton

George Hollow was a minister of the Anglican Church in Hawthorn around 1888. Herbert Stanley Hollow was also a minister, I have heard many people refer to "Reverend Hollow" over the years. The other son, Victor Stanley Hollow was a solicitor.
