Patrick Cuff

1795 - 1847

During the thirty years from the end of the Napoleonic Wars to the beginning of the Great Famine of the late 1840's; a million Irish emigrants sailed from Ulster and Connaught to Philadelphia and New York, where "their vast number[s]" astonished earlier settlers -- Patrick and Mary Cuff arrive in New York,  May 4, 1842 aboard the Barque Oberlin by way of Liverpool, England. When Patrick Cuff dies at the early age of 52, he is put to rest at the Irish Grove Parish just outside the township of Rock Run, Illinois in 1847, leaving his wife and two young sons -- Thomas 6, and John 5.


Patrick CUFF b. ABT 1795, Ireland, m. Mary [unknown], b. ABT 1810, Ireland. Patrick died 24 Oct. 1847 at the age of 52, Irish Grove, Stephenson Co., IL, buried: St. Patrick's Cemetery.
