1. James GIRTEN was born about 1770. He died on 7 Feb 1850 in St. Vincent, Union Co., Kentucky. He was buried in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, St. Vincent, Union Co., Kentucky.
The earliest record of the James Girten clan in Union County occurs when James Girten bought 130 Acres of land in the county on April 6, 1819. See: Deed Book B, B-2. "Joseph R. Delaney and Nancy his wife To: James Girten For $751.50, 83 1/2 acres of land on the waters of Casey's Creek."
The Girten clan first appears in the census records of Union Co. in the 1820 Census. Sometime between 1810 and 1819, James Girten moved his family (possibly including a nephew or brother) to the county. At the time of the 1820 census the Girten clan was comprised of two households. In the first household were James and his wife, Mary, both over the age of 45, 6 other males, ages 16 to 26 (b 1794-1804), two females ages 10 to 16 (b. 1804-1810), and one female under the age of 10 (b 1810-1820). The second household was headed by John Girten (presumably the son of James) with his wife, Mary Ann [Barron] Girten, both between the ages of 16 to 26, and one male child, under the age of 10.
James married Mary UNKNOWN. Mary was born before 1775.
Mary shows up by name in an early deed record in Union County. The actual text states "James Girten, Senr. and Mary, his wife".
The "Register of Deaths of Sacred Heart Church - St. Vincent", published in Union County, Kentucky Genealogy, Vol. III, lists, on page 25, the record of the death of a Mary Girtin on 10 Dec 1843. I cannot connect her to any other family. It is possible that this is the wife of James Girten.
James and Mary had the following children:
