Maryland. In the name of god amen I Wm Dixon of Talbot County in
ye above sd province being sick of body but of pfect & sound memory praise
be ye lord for ye same & not knowing how soon ye lord may be pleased to call me
out of this transtry world thought fitt do make & ordain this my prsent last
will & testament. In manner & form following yt is to say first I commit my soul
in to ye hands of all mighty god beleig yt in & through ye dear son of his love Christ
Jesus our Savior do find acceptance with him & my body to be buryed at ye
discresion of my dear friends and as touching ye disposing of all such templ
estate as it hath pleased all mighty god to bestow on me. I give & dispose there
of as followeth first my will is yt all my just depts wch I owe of right be pd &
discharged. Item I give to my nephew Isac Dixon my own brothers son ye
Plantan where on I now live wth all ye several land or tracts adjacent or
be longing to ye same namly Bennetts Hill fifty acres Dixons out let two
Hundd acres pt of ashby esteemed sixty acres ye ending of controversy counted
one Hundd & fifty acres to him & his heirs for ever exep'g fifty acres out of Dixons
out lett accorddg to its meets & bounds. Item I give to my two old negroes mingo
& Menekine there freedom yt is to say yt my will is yt they be freed from their services
when this prsent crop is compeatly finishd yt is now this present year in hand
I give to ye above sd negroes fifty acres of land according to the bounds here after
mentioned of as Dixons lott during their natural lives and after their decease
I give it to Wm Horne & his heirs for ever yt is to say Wm Horney son of Jeffry Horney

and if ye sd Wm Horne should die before posesed then it is my will yt his father young
Jefry should enjoy it & his heirs forever the bounds are as followeth begining at a small
bounded hickory standing by ye path side near Wm Stallings by a new bridge one
hundd & fifty line perches then east one hundred & ten perches yn south one hundd pechs
to _adwins old line then to ye first bounded Hickery. Item It is my will yt my Exrs
here after named build on the sd fifty acres of land for ye use of ye afsd negores &
for their use one forty feet Tobacco house and one dwelling house according to ye
dementions of a house wch we call Cannons house wch are to be built as soon as he
convently can. Item I give to ye afore sd negroes mingo one young mare one cow &
cow calf and breeding sow and all their beding & what so ever they call theres in ye kichen
because they have been faith full servts a bove 20 years and it has been often wth me if
ye lord would let them live wth me to ye end of my days to set ym free wch I have
accordingly done. Item I give to my sisters son namly twenty pds
sterlg or that value to be sent by my Extr here after named in two years after my
decease. Item I give my sister's Daughr namly Eliz. Watt twenty pds sterg or ye
value to be sent to her in two years after my decease wch I do appt & order my Cousin
Isaac Dixon to do all so I would have my Cousin Isaac Dixon to send his mother
one good Hogshead of tobacco as from me as a token of my love. Item I give to my
well belovd Son in Law Peter Harrad one Plann & all ye lands & benefits to ye same be
longing calld comnwhitton adjoining to ye land of Richd Carter late Deced & all so
ye hundd acres of land lying on ye freshes of Chesr. River calld Cum Whitton being
three fine necks of land Wm Comeges knows ye bounds of it both sd tracts of land
and all other land that can be called mine & is not mentioned in my will in
Maryland I give to my well be lovd son in Law Peter Harrod whom I make my
sole Exer of this my last will & testament & I do make void all other wills & Testamts
by me here to fore made In witness where of I ye sd Wm Dixon to this my last will
and Testamt set my hand & seal this 16 day of ye 3 mo may 1708 William Dixon (Seal)
Talbot Feby ye 17 ADom 1708 Then came be fore me ye subscr Depy Comr for Talbot Coy
Peter Harrod Exr of yt wth in will and causd ye sd will to be provid wch was accordingly
provd in due form as followeth yt is to say John Pitts aged about 60 years or there a bout
upon his test taken be fore me in due form declares as followeth yt is to say that about 3 or
4 days before ye date of ye wth in will ye wth in named Wm Dixon decd being yn taken sick
sent for ye Deponent in order to write ye wth in will wch ye sd Depont accordingly did so
ye & ye sd depont doth declare yt ye sd will was writ according to ye directions & order of
ye sd Wm Dixon in every respect as is in ye sd will expresd. And ye sd deponent further sath yt
he has been aquainted wth ye handwriting of ye sd deceasd for this 30 years & upwards
& yt sd depont does believe in his conscience yt ye sd Wm Dixon did sign wth his proper
hand his name to ye sd will and ye sd depont furthur saith not? The Deposin of
Tho: Taylor Merchnt aged about 45 years or there abouts deposeth on his test as folws
that is to say ye depot saith yt he has been aquainted wth ye a fore said Wm Dixon
for this several years as all so wth ye sd Wm's hand writing & sign and ye depont
saith yt he dies veriily believe yt ye sd Wm Dixons did sign ye will wth his
proper hand & name and ye depont furthur saith not The despositn of Joseph
Rogers aged a out 57 years or there abouts deposeth upon his oth as follows yt is
to say The Depont all so saith yt he has been acquainted wth ye a fore sd Wm Dixon
ye 20 years & upwards as all so wth ye sd Wm Dixons hand writing & yt sd Depot saith
yt he does be lieve yt ye sd Wm Dixon did sign ye wth in wth his proper hand & name

and ye depont furthur saith not The Deposition of Jno Newman aged about 66
years or there abouts deposeth on his oath taken on ye holy Evangelist of all mighty
god as foll yt is to say The depont saith yt he has all so been acquaintd wth ye a fore
sd Wm Dixon for these 25 years & upwards as all so wth ye sd Wm Dixons hand writing
& ye sd depont saith yt he does believe yt ye sd Wm did sign ye wth in will wth his proper
hand & name and ye depont further said not..... Memornam all ye several
depositions on ye other side rectd were taken be fore me ye subscriber Depy Comr
for Talbot County ye 18 day of Feby ADom 1708 and Letts Testamy & was accordingly
granted to ye Exr Peter Harwood together wth a copy of ye will certd of me Robt Finley DC
This may satisfy all persons whom it may concern yt I Isaac Dixon being wth my dear
uncle Wm Dixon ye night before he died asked him if he had settled his Business he
replyed yes by all means to wch assertion I being taken very sick thinks good to
testify ye Truth of ye matter to wch I susbsc my name yt ye sixteenth day of twelft

Maryland
In the name of God Amen. I William Dixon of Talbot County in
the above said province being sick of body but of perfect and sound memory praise
be the lord for the same and not knowing how soon the Lord may be pleased to call me
out of this transitory world thought fit do make and ordain this my present last
will & testament. In manner and form following that is to say first I commit my soul
into the hands of all mighty god believing that in and through the son of his love Christ
Jesus our Savior do find acceptance with him and my body to be buried at the
discretion of my dear friends and as touching the disposing of all such temporal
estate as it has pleased all mighty god to bestow on me.

I give and dispose thereof as follows:
First my will is that all my just debts which I owe of right be paid and discharged.

Item: I give to my nephew Isaac Dixon my own brothers son the
Plantation where on I now live with all the several land or tracts adjacent or
belonging to the same namely "Bennetts Hill", fifty acres "Dixons Outlet"" two
Hundred acres 1st of "Ashby Esteemed", sixty acres "The Ending of Controversy" counted
one Hundred & fifty acres to him and his heirs forever except fifty acres out of
"Dixons Outlett" according to its meets & bounds.

Item: I give to my two old negroes Mingo & Menekine their freedom
that is to say that my will is that they be freed from their service
when this present crop is completely finished that is now this present year in hand and
I give to the above said negroes fifty acres of land according to the bounds hereafter
mentioned of out [of] Dixons lott during their natural lives and after their decease
I give it to William Horne[y] and his heirs forever, that is to say William Horney,
son of Jeffrey Horney

and if the said William Horne[y] should die before possessed then it is my will that his father,
young Jefry should enjoy it and his heirs forever the bounds are as follows beginning at a small
bounded hickory standing by the path side near William Stallings by a new bridge one
hundred and fifty line perches then east one hundred and ten perches then south one hundred perches
to _adwins old line then to the first bounded Hickery.

Item: It is my will that my Executor
hereafter named build on the said fifty acres of land for the use of the aforesaid negroes and
for their use one forty foot Tobacco house and one dwelling house according to the
dimensions of a house which we call "Cannons house" which are to be built as soon as he
conveniently can.

Item: I give to the aforesaid negroes "Mingo" one young mare, one cow and
cow calf and breeding sow and all their bedding and whatever they call theirs in the kitchen
because they have been faithful servants above 20 years and it has been often with me if
the lord would let them live with me to the end of my days to set them free which I have
accordingly done.

Item I give to my sisters son namely _________ twenty pounds
sterling or that value to be sent by my Executor here after named two years after my
decease.

Item: I give my sister's daughter, namely Elizabeth Watt, twenty pounds sterling or the
value to be sent to her in two years after my decease which I do appoint & order my cousin
Isaac Dixon
to do all so I would have my cousin Isaac Dixon to send his mother
one good hogshead of tobacco as from me as a token of my love.

Item: I give to my well beloved Son in Law, Peter Harrad, [Harwood] one Plantation and all the lands and benefits to the same
belonging called "Comnwhitton" adjoining to the land of Richard Carter late deceased and also
the hundred acres of land lying on the freshes of Chester River called "Cumwhitton" being
three fine necks of land William Comeges knows the bounds of it both said tracts of land
and all other land that can be called mine and is not mentioned in my will in Maryland

I give to my well beloved son-in-law Peter Harrod [Harwood] whom I make my
sole Executor of this my last will and testament and I do make void all other wills and Testaments
by me heretofore made In witness where of I the said William Dixon to this my last will
and Testament set my hand & seal this 16th day of the 3 mo(nth?) may 1708 William Dixon (Seal)

Talbot February the 17 Anno Domini 1708 Then came before me the subscriber Deputy Commissioner for Talbot County
Peter Harrod [Harwood] Executor of the within will and caused the said will to be provided which was accordingly
proved in due form as follows that is to say John Pitts aged about 60 years or there about
upon his testimony taken before me in due form declares as follows, that is to say that about 3 or
4 days before the date of the within will the within named William Dixon deceased being taken sick
sent for the deponent in order to write the within will which the said deponent accordingly did so
that the said deponent does declare that the said will was written according to the directions & order of
the said William Dixon in every respect as is in the said will expressed. And the said deponent further said that
he has been acquainted with the handwriting of the said deceased for these 30 years & upwards
& that said deponent does believe in his conscience that the said William Dixon did sign with his proper
hand his name to the said will and the said deponent further said not

The Deposition of Thomas Taylor, Merchant aged about 45 years or there abouts deposed on his testimony as follows
that is to say the deponent said that he has been acquainted with the aforesaid William Dixon
for this several years as all so witnessed the said William's handwriting & sign and the deponent
said that he does verily believe that the said William Dixon did sign the will with his
proper hand & name and the deponent furthur said not

The deposition of Joseph Rogers aged about 57 years or there abouts deposed upon his oath as follows that is
to say the deponent also said that he has been acquainted with the aforesaid William Dixon
ye 20 years & upwards as all so witnessed the said William Dixons handwriting & that said deponent said
that he does believe that the said William Dixon did sign the witness with his proper hand & name

and the deponent furthur said not.
The deposition of Jno Newman aged about 66
years or there abouts deposed on his oath taken on the holy Evangelist of all mighty
god as foll that is to say the deponent said that he has also been acquainted with the afore
said William Dixon for these 25 years & upwards as also witnessed the said William Dixons hand writing
& the said deponent said that he does believe that the said William did sign the within will with his proper
hand & name and the deponent further said not...

Memorandum all the several depositions on the other side recorded were taken before me the subscriber Deputy Commissioner
for Talbot County the 18th day of February Anno Domini 1708 and Letters Testimony & was accordingly
granted to the Executor Peter Harwood together with a copy of the will certified of me Robert Finley, Deputy Commissioner.

This may satisfy all persons whom it may concern that I Isaac Dixon being with my dear
uncle William Dixon the night before he died asked him if he had settled his Business he
replied yes by all means to which assertion I being taken very sick thinks good to
testify the Truth of the matter to which I subscribe my name this the sixteenth day of the twelth
