OVER 110,000 DEAD IN SOUTHERN ITALY
Earthquake and Tidal Wave hit Sicily and Calabria
at dawn on December 28, 1908 at the Strait of Messina.

During the disaster, the Calabrese family lived with their children
in the Province of Palermo, on the northern seacoast of Sicily,
roughly one hundred miles west of the epicenter of the earthquake.
