Chase JOSEPH L FRY page 790 ONE of the most efficient and popular municipal offices the city of Charleston has had is Mayor Joseph L. Fry. He is a native of that city, born October 7, 1851, the son of James H. and Jane A.(Donnally) Fry. He attended Mercer Academy two years and the Charleston Institute for the same length of time. He was elected Recorder of the city of Charleston in 1875, and was twice re-elected to that position, serving until 1881. He engaged in mercantile pursuits until 1887, when he was elected Mayor of that city, to which office he was re-elected in 1889. His popularity is evidenced by the fact of his election to whatever public office he has consented to accept.
