Charlie: I am "Nolie" who wrote you about Sarah Cummins, b.13 Feb. 1734
inFarquier co., VA
and died in Knox co., TN. Here is some more information about the family.
But first, I think you
might be interested in a newsletter called "The Hallmark Quarterly" by
William O. Hallmark, 526
Caravaca Dr., Garland, TX 75043, who has published quite a bit about the
Cummings family.
You should check into it.
1. Sarah was the daughter of Simon Cummings and Elizabeth Harrell. She marr.
Richard Mynatt,
31 Mar. 1755 in Prince William Co., VA. They had 10 children,
Leannah (my line), being the oldest. b. 19 Feb. 1756.
2. Simon Cummings was b. ca 1700 in Stafford co., VA and died June 1771,
Farquier co., VA.
Simon the son of Alexander Cummins and Sarah Mutton , marr. Elizabeth
Harrell, dau. of
Daniel Harrell.
3. Alexander was the son of William Cummins and Anne (no last name known),
was born
10 Dec. 1677 at St. Stephens Parish, Northumberland, VA, and died
1737-1739 at Prince
William co., VA , marr. Sarah Muttoon, was b. ca. 1680 at Great Wicomico
Parish,
Gloucester Co., VA, the dau. of John Mattoone, Jr. and wife Sarah.
4. William Cummins, son of Nicholas Cummins, b.1656 VA, marr. Anne (last
name not known).
5. Nicholas Cummins son of Nicholas Comins and wife, Ellen Elison,b 1636 in
VA.
marr. Elizabeth Hooper.
6. Nicholas Comins son of William Cummyne (no wifes name given), b.1602 in
London,
England, and died 1656 at York co., VA. He marr. Ellen Elison.
7. William Cummyne, b. 1580 probably in Scotland, some say London,England.
If you write to Mr. Hallmark, tell him you are interested in the Cummins
name. You might want to
see Volumne 1, issue 2, published in June 1994, in particular as it has quite
a bit of Information in
it. I also have a copy of the book " Cummins Ancient, Cummins New", a
History of the Cummins
family of Rockcastle County, Kentucky by Frances Funk. A second volume was
published
in 1980. My sister was kind enough to copy the book, or what parts of it she
had obtained. It is
quite interesting. Hope some of this is of some help to you. Donna

I am interested in the cummins you mentioned in Missouri. I have been
looking for the parents of
a Henry or Hugh T. Cummins born in Missouri and raised possibly around
Liberty. His parents,
according to the censuses, were born in Kentucky. Hugh was born sometime in
1830's ( I have 3
different dates). He ended up in Texas. Any information you can give me
would be appreciated.

It seems many family genealogies gathered their Cummin(g)s information on
these two books.
Information has been repeated often.
"Cummings Geniology" - author Oren Albert Cummins in 1904 or
"The Cummings Memorial" by George Moohr in 1903.
Which book lists 10,000 descendentsof Isaac Cummings, who came to the U.S
with the
Massechusetts Bay Colony in1639 and settled in Topsfield and had lands in
both Topsfield and
Ipswitch. At first reading it seems you would be better off starting
in,Delaware County, New
York and work back. Checking cemetery records, land records and local
records of births and
deaths. Are there any names
peculiar to your family which may have been passed down. Look for these
names.The New York
State Historical Society might be helpful in locating records and family
histories.The earliest
Benjamin in our family was born Benjamin White Cummins 12 January 1777 in
Sharon, MA..
His mother was a White and Benjamin was a common name in her family.
Benjamin Cummins,
born in Delaware County, New York in 1772 would make no connection. Maybe
Barry has more
information on the Michigan side of things. It would be helpful if you could
find an historian in
Delaware County, New York. My sister and I looked for certain information
for years.We found
the most info by visiting the area and connecting up with a local historian.

A couple of weeks ago you placed a post in INROOTS regarding the Cummins/
Cummings family. I'm sorry I didn't write to you sooner about this. There
were
some Cummings that married into my Lanman family in Perry County, IN. They

Re: Alabama Ancestral Database
Hard to find your Alabama ancestors??? Is it costly??? Here is the
solution. The
NE Alabama Genealogical Society is now in the process of compiling a
database
containing the family trees of those with Alabama Ancestors. This society is
a
non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of our Alabama
heritage.
We will perhaps be able to help you to locate your 'missing' link and you
can help
us to help someone else! We are so excited about this project and already
our data-
base is growing so quickly. When we receive a request and we locate your
ancestor,
we will send you a print out of their family group sheet, and their parents
family group
sheet. We will also send you the name and address of the submitter so that
you can
contact them for more information. We have just begun our project and
already we
have been able to help several people.
Would you consider being a part of this project? If so, please submit a
GEDCOM
diskette to us via snail mail. Downloading is just too expensive considering
all the
participation that we are having.
Send your GEDCOM 3 1/2 diskette to: NE Alabama Genealogical
Society,%Lucinda
Evans, Editor, P.O. Box 674, Gadsden, AL 35902. All research requests must
be
accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelop.
If you have any further questions, please e-mail me. Please include your
email
address with your diskette.
