LIMA, FORMERLY OF PALATKA, FLA., DIED AT 3:10 P.M. JULY
JAMES C. PENLAND, 91, Lima, formerly of Palatka, Fla.,
died at 3:10 p.m. July12, 2004, at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton. He
was born Feb. 17, 1913, in Knox County, Ky., to Oscar Palmer and Maggie
Judith Penland, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 23, 1930, he married
Jessie Golden, who died June 17, 1998. Mr. Penland had been a carpenter for
W.L. Clark Construction Co. He was a member of Lafayette Missionary Baptist
Church, Lafayette. He was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church,
Palatka, Fla. Survivors include a son, Bill (Sue) Penland of Lima; a half
brother, Conley C. Penland of Nicholasville, Ky.; and 12 grandchildren, four
stepgrandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, and
four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters,
Alta (H.L.) Mason and Mildred Parthemore McCoy; a brother, Carl Penland; a
sister, Willie May Lake; and a great-grandchild and a stepgreat-grandchild.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lafayette Missionary Baptist
Church, Lafayette. The Rev. Terry Brock will officiate. Burial will be in
Lafayette Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at
Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, and one hour prior to services
Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Lafayette
Missionary Baptist Church.
