In 1880 Charlie is listed under CALLISON surname but after their younger c hildren. A city directory lists him as "in the care of Samuel" In 1892 he is listed as the supposedly adopted son of Samuel Application for letters of Administration State of Ohio Clark County Proba te Court. D.W. Callison being duly sworn, say that Samual Collison a resid ent of the township of Pike died on or about the 29th day of Nov. 1892 a nd he did not leave a last will and testatment; the said Samuel Callison d ied leaving no widow and the following people , his only heirs at law Ada E. Callison, daughter PO Donnelsville C.R. Collison Supposed Adopted son PO Crosstown, Ohio Now the kicker --- His death certificate names Robert CALLISON as his fat her and mother's maiden name unknown. His son filled out the death Certifi cate. Perhaps, he thought this just because his middle name was Robert. Ac cording to his death cert. he was born Feb. 14, 1865, Donnelsville, Cla rk Co., Ohio but this has not helped me ONE BIT.(Source Marilyn Hansen GNE OLOG@aol.com

It is unclear if Charles was Charles Henderson or Charles Callison. All le gal documents for him identify him as Charles R. Callison but see the 18 70 census for his father where he is identified as Henderson and also comm ent of "supposedly adopted son" in Samuel's estate papers. In the 1880 cen sus he was listed after Ada Callison who was 13 years younger. An early Sp ringfield city directory lists him as Charles Callison in the care of Samu el Callison

His father, Isaac W., and his wife, Jane Mars, were paren ts of four children - John M., Cynthia E., William S., and his twin siste r, who died in infancy. Cynthia married John McCroskey, and her death occu rred in 1866. John is living in Adams Township. The mother of Dr. Hunt di ed in 1848, and Mr. Hunt married Emmeline Wooley in 1850; their children w ere named Nancy A., Hannah H., Mary E., Clara A. and Ulysses S. G. Three a re living Nancy is the wife of Robert Street, Hannah of Lewis Hines, Ulyss es is still single, and the other two are dead. The father was a nati ve of New York, and both his wives of Ohio; all the children were bo rn in Ohio. Dr. Hunt commenced teaching school in 1866, during which ti me he began the study of medicine, and continued his teaching during the w inter for five years. He. attended lectures and graduated at the Cincinna ti College of Medicine and Surgery, in 1870. He commenced practicing medic ine at There Haute in March, 1871; he was Postmaster in 1877-78. His marri age to Miss Nancy L. Lee was celebrated May 23,1872. She is the daught er of John G. and Mary Lee, who represent one of the old families who sett led here long ago, and have done their part in developing this country th at is now so beautiful. Dr. and Mrs. Hunt have one child-Lillian. He h as a good library; his knowledge of medicine is extensive, and his reputat ion as a physician is an enviable one.

He was a 1941 graduate of Westville High School, served in the US Army during WWII, was a member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church, VFW Post 5451 where he was a past commander, Pearce Kerns American Legion Post 120, Urbana Moose Lodge #1215, Lakeview Eagles Lodge #3615, and Lakeview AmVets Post 39 and enjoyed bowling. Roger retired from farming and in 1988 from Midland Ross. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Darlene (Rice) whom he married April 19, 1947, a son Jeron Rhodes and his wife Cindy of Urbana, 8 grandchildren; Kyle (Nancy), Michael, Shelley, Craig, Angie, Amy (Ray), Shannon (Phil) and Ryan, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 daughters; Karen Brown and Tondra Rhodes, grandson, Bryan Brown, great grandson Raymond Westcott and brother- in-law, Don Insley. [HI58298] (Research):Amina Leathley was born Amina Duff, the younger sister of my great grandfa ther, Michael Martin Duff (he was called Martin, but legal docs,i.e., marr iage were under M.M. or Michael Martin). So, I am descended from Jo hn M. Duff and Maria Martin Duff, the parents of Amina, Martin and qui te a few other children, who all stayed in Miami and Clark County, exce pt those two, and apparently, Amina didn't stray too far. I did know th at she had no children. I have no idea what happened in his family, b ut he NEVER spoke of them - we didn't even know his true full given nam e. He went to Kansas sometime in the 1890's, married my great-grandmoth er (who was from Gibson County, Ind.) and ended up in Colorado where he di ed in 1937. I have discovered these things only because my grandfather (h is son) said he (my grandfather) was born in Solomon City, Kans in 189 5, so I began my search there and found the marriage record. Michael Mart in's father, John M., was born in Ireland c. 1837. I did send for his cit izenship papers, but they did not state what county in Ireland he came fro m, only that he came in 1851 from Ireland. I further discovered that Jo hn M. had committed his wife (my G-G grandmother) to the Southern Ohio Lun atic Asylum 3 or 4 times; each time, after a year, the asylum released h er and he would send her back (in between having children!). I was ab le to obtain the records and her diagnosis was Melancholy. He then sued f or guardianship of Maria in order to obtain her inheritance from her decea sed father, Samuel Martin of Staunton Township, Miami County! I then fou nd a marriage of John M. Duff to a Sarah Iliff in 1891 in Clark County, wh ere they had moved c. 1870, but I find no death or anything else. He w as born c. 1837 in Ireland and owned land in Clark County, but I can't fi nd him in a cemetery! Anyway, I wonder if my great-grandfather was ups et with his father for committing his mother, or for marrying. I also can not find a death on Maria Martin Duff. I am having a time of it. That's our story, so now, if I can find some of the other family member s, maybe I can find out what happened to the family and why Maria was comm itted. whose fine, eighty-acre farm is situated five miles south of Sidne y, is one of the prominent citizens of Orange township, Shelby county, O ., of which he is a trustee. He was born August 25, 1862, in Orange townsh ip, and is a son of Daniel and Mary (Venice) Buirley.
Daniel Buirley was born in Shelby county, O., where his father had be en a pioneer, probably coming from Germany. In the early subscription scho ols Daniel Buirley obtained his knowledge of text books and afterward devo ted his life to farm pursuits, first in Orange and later in Clinton townsh ip, living into his seventy-first year. He married Mary Venice, who was bo rn in Champaign county, O., and died in Orange township, when aged seven ty years. They had five children, namely: John A., who is a resident of Cl inton township; Benjamin, who lives at Jackson Center; S. T., who attend ed school both in Clinton and Orange townships;. Delilah, who is decease d; and Elizabeth, who is now deceased, was the wife of H. H. Wilson.
S. T. Buirley remained on the home farm in Clinton township until 188 8, when he came to Orange township to live, and in 1909 bought the old Fer gus place and started immediately to make the improvements which have conv erted it into one of the valuable and attractive properties of this sectio n, his residence being built according to ideas of comfort and convenienc e. General farming is carried on here very successfully and good stock rai sed.
Mr. Buirley was married to Miss Mary Redinbo, who was born in Green t ownship, Shelby county, and they have one daughter, Dema D., who resides w ith her parents. Politically a democrat, Mr. Burley takes a deep intere st in public issues and is somewhat of a leader in local opinion. In 19 10 he was elected a member of the board of trustees of Orange township a nd has proved an able, honest and efficient public official. He belon gs to the Odd Fellows and attends lodge meetings at Sidney.

who is a representative of one of the earliest pioneer. families of S helby county, is a well-known citizen of Sidney where he was engaged in ne wspaper work prior to July I, 1898, since which date he has been assista nt postmaster. He was born on his father's farm in Green township Octob er 27, 1870, and is a son of Snowden Taylor and Anna (Mathers) Dorsey.
Snowden Taylor Dorsey was born in 1825, in Green township, a son of J ohn Dorsey, who came from Maryland and settled in this section when it w as yet a wilderness. Snowden T. Dorsey was reared on the pioneer farm a nd attended the first school ever organized in Green township. He learn ed the carpenter trade and also was a farmer. At the time of death, Septem ber 11, 1894, he was the oldest man in Green township.
Charles M. Dorsey grew to manhood on the home farm and obtained his e ducation in the public schools, with two years at the Lebanon National Nor mal School and one term at Valparaiso, Ind., for three years afterward tea ching school at Palestine. He then came to Sidney and for some years was c onnected with the old Sidney Gazette which later merged with the Sidney Jo urnal. He has been an active citizen and to some degree interested in poli tics.
Mr. Dorsey was first married to Miss Mamie Brelsford, who died Septem ber 14, 1910, the mother of three children: Amelia Knox, Mary and Horace T aylor, the second born dying at the age of seven months. Mr. Dorsey was ma rried (second) July 18, 1912, to Miss Stella Wilson, who was a successf ul teacher and an admired lady in Sidney social circles. Mr. Dorsey was re ared in the Presbyterian church. He is identified with a number of fratern al organizations, including: the Odd Fellows, the Tribe of Ben Hur, and t he Knights of the Golden Eagle.

H is father died in 1894, one-half mile east of the old Dorsey homestead whe re he was born in 1825.
In the public schools Samuel M. Dorsey secured his early education al training and later pursued higher branches at Lebanon, O. For two yea rs afterward he taught school and as an educator fulfilled every expectati on but as a business, agriculture made closer appeals to him and for ma ny years he devoted himself to farming and stock raising. He is connect ed at Sidney with the Odd Fellows and the Knights of the Golden Eagle, a nd he belongs also to the Presbyterian church at Sidney. In politics he ea rly identified himself with the republican party and has served in the off ice of township clerk.

He enjoyed his seven grandchildren, Jenness (Mark) Sigma n, Tammy North, Kirk (Kathleen) Zerkle, Tonda North, Tiffany (Greg) Arnet t, Trent and Wesley Notestine. He has ten great-grandchildren. He is al so survived by sisters, Evelyn Hough of Frankfort, Ohio and Louise Koblen tz of Ocala, Florida; and a special friend, Donna Earnhart.
