The Attica Independent, Attica, Kansas, 14 January 1926 Funeral of J. A. Moore - Funeral services for the late J. A. Moore were he ld on last Saturday morning at 10:00 o'clock at the Attica United Brethr en church. The change in the hour from that announced last week was made n ecessary by the fact that one of the sons could not be here in the afterno on. Members of the local Masonic lodge bore the body to the church, and ac companied it to its final resting place in the cemetery at Harper. Re v. A. J. Bruner conducted the funeral service, and read the following obit uary: J. A. Moore was born at Attica, Ohio, July 15, 1849; died at his home in A ttica, Kansas, January 6, 1926; aged 76 years, four months and 11 day s. He came to Harper, Kansas, March 4, 1884, and settled on a farm 2 ½ mil es northeast of Attica. Later he accepted a position with t he A. T. & S. F. railway and moved to Attica. He married Sallie J. Com er at St. Paris, Ohio, April 1869, after which ten children were born, thr ee of whom have passed on before and are at rest. Clara Hartzell, J. H. Mo ore, W. F. Moore, Guy E. Moore, Hattie Koeppen, J. A. Moore Jr., and R oy C. Moore, with their mother and one sister, Lottie Snapp of Natoma, Kan sas, still survive. Mr. Moore was a member of the German Lutheran chur ch at St. Paris, Ohio. In early life he joined the Masonic lodge and has b een for years a member of the A. F. & A. M. Lodge No. 262 in Attica. He w as also a member of the Welcome Chapter No. 203, O. E. S., in Attica. He was a good citizen, loyal to his country, just to men, charitable to t he poor, always meekly bowed to the ordinance of law; and was no less to t his church and his God. He loved his home, was a faithful husband, a ki nd father to his children, and loved to make it pleasant and enjoyab le in the home. The winter has its frost, the summer its thunder storm, the rose its thor n, the day its night, the sun his spots; life has its sweet and bitter, a nd death must have its sting. How sweet it is to know that the resurrecti on will clothe mortality with a life that will never die! CARD OF THANKS To the dear friends and neighbors who came to mean so mu ch to us for their many acts of helpful kindness during the long illness a nd at the time of the death of our dear husband and father, we wish in th is way to express our most sincere appreciation and thanks. Mrs. S. J. Moo re and children.

[HI35673] (Research):rootsweb.com's WorldConnect to turn up something on this oldest child of C harles Albert Bodey. It looks like he married one Lula B. Benson in Cherok ee (Alfalfa Co.) OK between 1900/1905, and that this couple had 2 daughters, Sybil (b. abt 1905) & Mona (b. abt 1907). They set tled at Alva (Woods Co.) OK, where the daughters were born. I have writt en both the Cherokee and Alva public libraries, where oddly I have had qui te recent queries about the Frysinger family (only some of which se em to be 'my' Frysingers) and have also e-mailed the submitter at the webs ite, one James Taylor (jtaylor794@aol.com) for more if he will. (Lew Ellin gham)

Thanks for the chart. The only added information is from my mothers not es in 1962 is on Mona, that she married, no children and lived in San Fra ncisco. My mother was living in Watsonville, CA at the time. On the picture of the women from left to right is Lulu Bodey, Lyda McV ay wife of Samuel Benson who is brother of the sisters. Alma Schaffer, M ay Blan, Alta Hunt and Dora Benson wife of Fred Benson. The Hunts and Bensons lived in southern Kansas and both homesteaded 1 60 acres as a result of being in the "Chreokee Strip" in 1889 and were ne ighbors. My grandfather Absalom Hunt was a rancher and cattle buyer in In gersoll, Oklahoma origionally from Kentucky. Luther Benson came to Kans as from Illinois, his father being a former Sheriff of Hancock county a nd U.S, Marshall and latter a farmer in Schuyler county, IL I only visit ed that part of Oklahoma in 1940 when I was very young so don't know th at much about it. I wish I could be of more help but that's about all t he information I have.

[HI35754] (Research):Champaign Co, Ohio, History by Beers, 1881, pg 687-688 Russell Brothers, Urbana, Champaign Co, Ohio. The dry goods house of Russe ll Brothers dates its origin back to January 1871, at which time it succee ded to the business of Cundiff & Russell, Oliver T Cundiff, of the latt er firm, having founded the mercantile business on the present site more t han fifty years since. The legitimate outgrowth of trade then begun is t he popular and enterprising firm of Russell Bros. By careful, prudent a nd thoughtful attention to the best interests of their trade, it has ris en gradually to the most gratifying proportions, and now occupies a conspi cuous place among the attractions of Urbana. The history of a firm like th is, which from a small trade has grown into large and prosperous busine ss is both interesting and instructive. It shows our young businessmen wh at energy, perseverance and pluck will accomplish in the world. George M R ussell, the Senior member of the above firm, embarked in the dry goods tra de in 1854. Two years subsequently went to Sidney, Ohio, accompanied by h is brother, James M and continued in the same business for eight years, re turning to Urbana in 1865, where he has resided ever since. James M Russel l, of the above firm, in the year 1862, entered the 118th OVI as a priva te soldier, enduring all of the hardships and privations incident al to an active and aggressive campaign, his regiment accompanying Sherm an to the sea. In September, 1862, he was appointed Sergent Major of his r egiment, and, on the 23rd of January, 1863, he was commissioned 2nd Lieute nant, and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant April 24, 1863, and made Adjuta nt of the regiment. Commissioned Captain in October 1864, retaining that p osition until he resigned. The rapid promotion conferred upon him indicati ng his efficiency and competency in was as well in peace. William M Russel l, junior member of the firm was appointed in 1868, United States Intern al Revenue Inspector, and was sent to an important post, where the most tr usty men were needed in those days of fraud and corruption. Later, he w as connected with the United States mail service, on the Pittsburgh, Cinci nnati & St Louis Railroad, which positions afforded him an excellent oppor tunity for development in the rapid and accurate transaction of business t hat brings him in contact with the masses. It is a rare thing to find a t rio of men possessing more business experiences, and better calculat ed to conduct a large and profitable business.

[HI36189] (Research):Denise K. Moore Page 1 8/31/01 P. O. Box 752 Gautier, MS 39553-0752 William Valentine of Champaign County, Ohio Research into the family was initiated on 1 May 2001, with an email from H ope Meados, 1078 North-west Milton Court, Bend, OR 97701, Tohobo2@cs.co m. Hope stated that William M. Valentine, born 1765 and died 1839, had mar ried Joanna Crane (born 1769; died 1859). A request was made for the grave site of William M. Valentine, who was a son of Obadiah Valentine. William Valentine, born 1750-1760 (1830 census), died circa 1834-1839. H is will, signed 2 February 1834, was probated on 15 October 1839 (Champai gn County Will Book B, Page 208). In his will, William named his son, Le vi Valentine and a neighbor, John Carey, as his executors. Levi was design ated as the administrator by the court records. The inventory of William's esta te, the appraisal and the sale bill were all dated on 7 February 1840 a nd a final account was presented before the court on 4 August 1841 (Champa ign County Estate Packet A-230). (Probated 10/15/1839) (Signed 2/2/1834) Will Book A pg 208 In his will, W illiam named the following heirs: Joanna Valentine, his widow, and the fol lowing children: Jane Sayre/Sayer, Hannah Cheney, Esther Parker, Obadiah V alentine, Joanna Beaty, Crane Valentine, Levi Valentine, Jonathan Valentin e, Daniel Valentine and William Valentine. William Valentine migrated in to the area of Champaign County, Ohio by 22 October 1807 (date of Jane's m arriage) but it is not known exactly when he arrived. He was listed in rec ords of Union Township (eastern Champaign County) through 1820. As the eas tern portion of Champaign County was Virginia Military Land the early Mili tary Warrants and Patents were searched but William's name was not foun d. Research needs to be conducted in the Champaign County land recor ds to see if William ever held land in the Bounty Land portion. By the 18 30 census enumeration he had relocated to Adams Township (western Champai gn County). William purchased the north-east quarter of land of Secti on 30 Township 3 Range 12 (Adams Township) from Moses Curry (should be Car ey) on 10 March 1825 (Deed Book G, Page 34). On 13 May 1825 William transf erred 52 acres of this land to Levi Valentine (Deed Book K, Page 441). How ever, the heirs of William began exchanging quit claim deeds for the re st of the land in the quarter beginning on 8 February 1836, thus, indicati ng that William was deceased by this time. The quit claim deeds continue t hrough 12 February 1841 and on 15 February 1848, Joanna deeded a portion ( probably her dower) to Levi Valentine (Deed Book T, Page 476). As to location of this land in rel ation to Careysville; Careysville is located in the north-east quart er of Section 29, and Section 30 is directly north. The north-east quart er of Section 30 would be one half mile north of Carysville. William purch ased, under the cash system, about 80 acres of land located in the west ha lf of the south-western quarter of Section 19 Township 3 Range 13 (Adams Township). His patent is on file in the Recorder's Offi ce of Champaign County and dated 1 March 1833 (Deed Book M, Page 330). Th is land is located approximately one-and-a-half miles north of Careysvil le and is bordered on the north by Shanley' Road. It is also located two m iles south of the Logan-Champaign County Line. On 10 March 1834 William sold th is land to his son, Daniel Valentine (Deed Book L, Page 232), who, in tur n, sold the land to Jacob W. Greer on 23 April 1835 (Deed Book M, Pages 1 10 and 326). Valentine References

It is not known where William was buried. At that early date families usua lly buried their dead on their own property. He may have been buried on h is farm and later reinterred in the Rosedale Cemetery at Careysville whe re he could lie next to his wife, Joanna. However, what is known as the "o ld cemetery" located in present day Rosedale Cemetery, Careysville, contai ns graves as early as the mid 1830s. William may have been buried there wh en he died. William Valentine and Levi Valentine, were listed as court appointed surve yors for the estate of Francis Wilson in 1824 (Chancery Record Book 9, Pa ge 338). In order to be appointed as surveyors, William and Levi would ha ve had to have lived in the vicinity of Wilson's landed estate, which w as located in Section 4 Township 3 Range 12 (Johnson Township). It mu st be noted here that the William Valentine named in this paragraph cou ld very well be William Junior, the son of William Valentine. To have liv ed in the vicinity of Section 4 the men may have been residents of the area about t wo miles north of Millerstown, Johnson Township. That area is at least fo ur miles east of Careysville. William's wife, Joanna, is buried in Roseda le Cemetery, Careysville, Adams Township, Champaign County. The tombsto ne was read in 1936 by the Nixon sisters, however, it has not been transcr ibed since that time. The Nixon sisters only copied 1867 as the year of de ath and 89 years as the age. Joanna was living with her son, Levi Valentin e, in the 1840 census, however, by 1850 she was in a household of her ow n. As the 1840 census was taken soon after the death of William, Joanna m ay have felt that she was not ready to be living alone.

[HI36190] (Research):mentioned in her father's will; married 22 Oct 1807, David Sayre. Jane gra nted a quitclaim deed for her interest in her father's estate to Levi Vale ntine on 1 August 1840 (Deed Book Q, Page 384). As Jane's name only w as on the deed, it would appear that she was a widow at the time. No furth er record.

[HI36192] (Research):mentioned in her father's will; married 3 Dec 1812, Edward James a nd on 8 Jan 1824 to Jonathan Parker. John Parker (and probably Esther) gra nted a quitclaim for Esther's interest in her father's estate to Levi Vale ntine on 12 February 1841 (Deed Book Q, Page 385). No further record.

[HI36194] (Research):Located in the 1820 census enumeration of Union Township and the 1830 cens us list of Jackson Township. On 13 November 1831 Obadiah purchased the nor th-east quarter of Section 13 Township 3 Range 13 (Jackson Township) fr om Daniel Baker (Champaign County Deed Book H, Page 339). Obadiah sold t he same land to John Logan on 11 June 1831 (Champaign County Deed Bo ok J, Page 289). On 11 July 1837 "Obed" granted a quitclaim deed to Levi Valentine for his int erest in William's estate (Deed Book O, Page 37). No further record.

[HI36197] (Research):This John Beatty was not the man who married Elizabeth Baker and settl ed in Jackson Township, Champaign County. On 29 October 1838 John Beaty (a nd probably Joanna) granted a quitclaim deed to Levi Valentine for her interest in William's estate (Deed Bo ok P, Page 170). No further record.

[HI36199] (Research):mentioned in her father's will; married 3 Apr 1817, John Cheney. They we re located in the 1820 census listing of Union Township. On 31 August 184 0, Hannah Cheney granted a quitclaim deed to Levi Valentine for her intere st in William's estate (Deed Book Q, Page 384). As John Cheney was not men tioned in the deed index, it must be assumed that he was deceased. No furt her record.

[HI36201] (Research):Researcher Nanette Roberts mrobert5@twcny.rr.com

also Don Valentine, no emal given

[HI36202] (Research):Located in the 1820 census of Union Township and the 1830 census enumerati on of Urbana Township. Listed in the deed index as "Valentine Crain", Cra ne granted a quitclaim deed to Levi Valentine for their father's esta te on 11 August 1840 (Deed Book Q, Page 385). No further record

[HI36203] (Research):Parentage not proven- not mentioned in her father's will and may have be en deceased by 1834; believed to have married 26 Mar 1820, Aaron Baker. Th ere was not a deed found that would have transferred Sarah's interest in t he estate of William Valentine. As Sarah was believed to be deceased, h er interest would have been passed on to her children. Due to the absen ce of any deed it must be assumed that Sarah died childless, or that the c hild did not live long enough to inherit from William Valentine.

[HI36204] (Research):Record Book 14, Page 242 — riled 20 February 1835 Aaron Baker & John Baker vs James McLaughlin, John Owen and Harry Marsh Daniel Baker, father of Aaron and John, before he died sold 23 acres inss outh—west corner of north—west quarter of Section 25 Township 6 Range lb ( Union Tp.) to James McLaughlin. McLaughlin gave a mortgage deed to John Ow en and Harry Marsh. The land had not been paid for. The complainants 1ate r~ dismissed the bill.

[HI36205] (Research):Levi married for his second wife, Sarah …, a widow. Sarah Valentine, ag ed 83 years, died in April 1886 and was buried in Rosedale Cemetery, however, a tombstone was not locat ed for her (St. Paris Era Dispatch, 13 April 1886). Levi probably purchas ed the shares of his siblings in their father's estate, therefore, the qui tclaim deeds were executed.

[HI36208] (Research):mentioned in his father's will. Listed in the 1830 census of Goshen Townsh ip, Champaign County. John Valentine executed a quitclaim deed for his int erest in his father's land to Levi Valentine on 8 February 1836 (Deed Bo ok M, Page 501). Hope Meados responded that Jonathan was the father of thr ee children: William, Harriet & Clarissa Jane Valentine. Therefore, it would appear th at it was Jonathan's family that was listed in the 1850 census of Pleasa nt Township, Logan County, Ohio. Jonathan apparently was deceased prior the enumeration. His wife would have been Elizabeth Val entine born circa 1806 in New York.

[HI36211] (Research):joined Carysville Christian Church of Carysville, Adams Township, Champai gn County on 28 December 1867 as Harriet Chambers.

[HI36216] (Research):mention in his father's will. As Daniel and David are often mis-read wh en old records are transcribed; this "Daniel" Valentine may be the "Davi d" Valentine who married 1 July 1830 in Champaign County, Jane Taylor. Dan iel purchased the land from his father in Section 19 of Adams Townsh ip on 10 March 1834 (Deed book L, Page 232) but sold the same on 23 Apr il 1835 to Jacob W. Greer (Deed Book M, Pages 110 and 326). Daniel also pu rchased 3 acres from his brother, John Valentine on 10 June 1828 (Deed Bo ok H, page 262). This land was located in the south-east quarter of Secti on 30. However, Daniel transferred this land, by a quitclaim, to Levi Vale ntine on 17-18 January 1834 (Deed Book L, Page 88). This deed has not be en examined. The deed probably contains a quitclaim for the land own ed by William Valentine in the north-east quarter, as well, as the la nd in the south-east quarter.

[HI36218] (Research): mentioned is his father's will. William Valentine married 28 April 183 5, Margaret C. Baker (widow of Abraham S. Baker - Reference: Champaign Cou nty Chancery Record Book 18, Page 67). After Calvin Carey laid out the to wn of Trenton (in 1835, known as Careysville) in 1833, William purchas ed a lot there and erected a two story house (History of Champaign Count y, 1881, Page 469). It is not known what was the number of the town lot. [HI36339] (Research):The one that is elusive is Rev. John Wyatt (5th gr. grandfather) born ab out 1748 in Virginia. From ancestry.com it said that he solemnized marriages in Fr anklin County Va and was a Methodist minister living in Clairbourne Count y. Tn. in 1805.

He had a son Thomas Wyatt that was born Abt. 1775 in Franklin County, Va a nd died Oct. 1, 1853 in Shelby County, Ohio

Thomas had a son Abner Wyatt born about 1800 in Ohio and died in 185 0. I am pretty sure he died in Shelby County, Ohio.

Abner Wyatt had a son Thomas Wyatt born 1834 in Shelby County, Ohio and di ed 1896 in Logan County, Ohio. He married Sarah E. McKinney on Augu st 6, 1857 in Pemberton, Ohio

Thomas and Sarah Wyatt had a daughter Mariah (Marie) E. who married Elza C overstone.

If the genealogy sites are correct to some degree -- it goes back to the 1 300's with the first Wyatt in England. If all is correct my 8th gre at grandfather was Sir Francis Wyatt who was born about 1588 in England a nd became the Govenor of Va. in 1621.
