[HI33170] (Research):Family researcher- Ray Walker RayFwa@aol.com

A William Weller, his wife Sarah Smith, and three children were pioneers w ho travelled by ox cart from Sandusky down to Bucyrus and then across to L ima to set up home and a business. William died suddenly in 1839. Over t he next ten years Sarah managed to settle his affairs and towards 1850, ju dging by her residence as given in the final disposition of her proper ty in Lima, she moved to Champaign county. She may not be in the 1850 cens us, but I suspect she is in the 1860 census for Urbana. She was there in 1 884, because a letter from her brother-in-law in Marysville, survivi ng in Hastings Museum in England, tells of her visit to him. I have a cert ified copy of her death certificate indicating that she died in Min go on 27 December 1887.

I have a very large history of the Weller family of potters and brickmaker s, summaries of which I have placed with Union Co., Clinton Co., Greene C o. and other genealogy societies and libraries throughout he world. I wou ld be quite happy to send one to Champaign Co. library or Gen Soc., altho ugh I doubt there is much to catch the special interest of surviving citiz enry.

This Weller family is quite distinct from the famous Weller Family of Zane sville; and I suppose one of the outcomes of my research has been to sh ow that this is the case, although it has been widely believed otherwis e. In fact I can tell you of two Weller descendants in Kansas who betwe en them collected over $3,000,000 worth of Zanesville pottery under the mi staken impression that it was derived from their family. A good investmen t, but not family momentoes!

My wife and I have travelled tens of thousands of miles and spent sever al thousand dollars putting together our Weller history.

[HI33171] (Research):She arrived in New York in 1828 with husband and son, both Williams. Th ey stayed in the Schenectady area of New York State with other membe rs of the Weller family (including his father and stepmother) ) until t he early 1830s, when they began to migrate to Ohio. In about 1828 in Schen ectady William and Sarah acquired a second son, who shows up (unname d) in the 1830 Schenectady and the 1840 Bath Twp censuses.

[HI33173] (Research):Parentage not proven, but facts support he data from the 1850 census are very helpful; at least I know now one rea son why the marriage of Enoch and Eliza Austin occurred in Champaign count y. Previously, I had supposed that it was because of the presence the re of Enoch's mother.

But I have never been able to securely tie down the third child, Enoch, bo rn about 1828 in Schenectady, or so it is supposed. I discovered an Eno ch with wife Eliza and three children serving in the Sheriff's Office in S andusky, who otherwise fits the description to the extent data are availab le. This Enoch, a major in the OVI, was killed in the Battle of Stones Riv er, TN in 1863, but it took Eliza twenty years to have her claim for a pen sion honored. It is these surviving records that led me back to Champai gn Co. and the hope that a public marriage record might exist naming her a nd William's parents.

I suspect that Enoch, aged 32, born 'New York', according to the 1860 Sand usky census is the missing son, supported by the marriage link to Champai gn Co. Among other reasons for my suspicions is that Enoch has been a fam ily first name down to modern times; an Enoch preceded his brother Willi am to Schenectady and followed him to Lima.

[HI33174] (Research):The Amos and Rachel you list seem to fit the former requirement, becau se an Amos Austin signed a statement to the Army, saying that as a physici an he was present at the birth of one of Eliza's children. I don't know wh ere Salem Township is, but assume it is near Urbana, and wonder if perha ps there are surviving newspaper reports of relevant events. The records s how that during the claim process Eliza moved from Erie Co. to Oregon a nd Rockford, Winnebago Co., Illinois, then to Muscatine Co., Iowa; and al so that one of her three daughters apparently married a Hunter in Iowa.

[HI33178] (Research):she appears to have been born after he died in 1839. An (unnamed) chi ld of an age that is consistent with Eugenia's birth is listed in the 18 40 Bath Twp census. (She married a William J. Constant in Marysville, he b eing the owner of land sold to Wellers to extend their pottery there).

[HI33327] (Research):To: jrabun@ix.netcom.com From: gaulding@cjnetworks.com (William Gaulding) Subject: Consolver Joanne: Thanks for updating me on your Nancy. I have searched my records a nd can find no other Nancy in my wife's John and Nancy Ann (BLAIR) CONSOLV ER line that would fit your Nancy's age and marriage in 1832. I am inclin ed to feel that she came from the Jacob CONSOLVER and Rachel ARCHER famil y. He was son of Jonathan (John), and nephew of Martin Jordon CONSOLVER, t he father of our John. Jacob and Rachel mar in Montgomery Co., OH 5 Sep 18 11 but they lived in Miami Co. OH in 1820 093 LC Twp (m 000104 - f 001001) and in 1830 025 Bro Twp (m 1000001 - f 11 2001). Depending on the age of Nancy when married in 1832, these census re cords could place her in about the right age. Bear in mind that Nancy's se cond daughter was named Rachel even though it seems to have been the pract ice in those days to name the first dau after the mother and as Nancy's fi rst dau was named Rebecca, this could throw water on this theory but bea rs looking into. Remember that the area where both Nancy and John were mar ried is in the Miami and Auglaize Co. area as is Montgomery Co. Jonathan ( John), Martin Jordan, James and Micajah were all sons of Charles and Ma ry CONSOLVER of Albemarle Co., VA. Charles reportedly born in 1732 in Wal es and killed in Battle of Cowpens 1781 Rev War. Jonathan also in Rev W ar and injured, finally settled in Washington Co., VA. Micajah disappear ed and no record here. Martin Jordan moved to Culpepper Co., VA and probab ly died there but no record of his death or place. James remained in Albem arle Co., VA and for some reason, they changed their names to KINSOLVER/KI NGSOLVER. [HI33337] (Research):William LaForge History -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ William LaForge

William LaForge was born on July 25, 1811 in Franklin County, Indian a. He was the seventh child of John Lefforge and Mary Smith. Of John's par ents nothing is known at this time. Mary was named as an heir in the wi ll of Barefoot Smith in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Barefoot stated h is relationship to each of his heirs except Mary, so we don't know just h ow she was related. John changed the spelling of his last name from LaFor ge to Lefforge after he moved his family to Indiana from New Jersey. Willi am used the original spelling of LaForge, for the most part, his entire ad ult life.

William married Eliza Brewer Wythe, daughter of Joshua Wythe Jr. and Hann ah Pond, in Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana on September 30, 1830. Th ey had two children: Alexander who married Emily Jennings and Emily who ma rried Edward Jones. Eliza died on September 14, 1834.

William and Eliza sold property in Franklin County in 1833. It is thoug ht that they moved to Vigo County, Indiana between 1833 and 1835 as th at is where William was issued a land patent on October 1, 1835. It must be noted that many times those receiving land patents never liv ed on the land.

After the death of Eliza, in either Vigo County or Franklin County, Willi am married Jane Tinbrook on February 3, 1839 in Franklin County. Of Jane 's family nothing is known. They had three children: Jacob, Jane and Mar y. Jane and Mary were twins. Jane married William Thorp and Mary married A lexander Chaney.

By the time the 1840 census was taken William had moved the family to Mac on County, Illinois. He stayed only a short time for by 1841 he had mov ed on to Piatt County (Illinois). Jane and Mary were born after the mo ve to Piatt County. Jane Tinbrook LaForge died, in Piatt County, between 1 844 and 1846. As of this time her grave has not been found.

When Jane died William was a widower for the second time and was left wi th five children. On October 13, 1846, in Piatt County, he married Eliza M orrow, daughter of James Morrow and Phebe Beedle. Eliza was fifteen or six teen years younger than William. They had three daughters: Ann, Sarah M. a nd Serilda Adaline. By the time the 1850 census was taken Eliza had giv en him two daughters: Ann and Sarah.

In October of 1852 William, along with other Piatt County families, left M onticello, Illinois on a wagon train heading for Burnet County, Texas. T wo members of the wagon train were the Matsler brothers, George and Davi d, with their families. David Matsler's first wife was Sarah Jane Morrow t he sister of Eliza Morrow LaForge.

William was in Burnet County, Texas by December 1852 as Eliza sent a messa ge to her Aunt Eliza Beedle Collins, who was still in Piatt. In a letter w ritten by Rebecca Matsler, wife of George Matsler, Eliza said that a ll of her children were ill and so was she. Eliza asked that her Aunt Eli za Collins write to her. It is my belief that Ann, Sarah and Jacob di ed in Burnet County. No trace of the three has been found after the 1850 c ensus.

William bought his first parcel of land in Burnet County on February 23, 1 853 from Benjamin and Sarah Stewart. This is the first official reco rd of William in Texas.

In April 1854 William and Eliza's daughter Serilda was born. She was the o nly one of William's children born in Texas. Serilda married Evan Philand er Hall.

William was a charter member of Valley Lodge No. 175 - A. F. & A. M. Willi am was present when the lodge was granted their charter and set to lab or in 1855. He held the office of Senior Warden.

By March of 1856 Eliza may have been ill. She wrote her will on March 4, 1 856. Her will was presented for probate on February 23, 1857. In her wi ll she stated that her father was James Morrow of Montgomery County, India na. Her tombstone has not been found in any of the Burnet County cemeterie s.

After the death of Eliza, William and James Rountree donated land for t he first school in Oatmeal. They deeded the land on December 25, 1857. T he deed was recorded at the courthouse on March 31, 1858.

William stayed in Burnet County until after his daughter, Jane, marri ed in 1859. He sold all of his land on March 6, 1860 and left Texas and we nt back to Indiana, taking Mary and little Serilda with him. He settled in Grant County. William has not been found on the 1860 census b ut was probably nearby and just missed as Mary and Serilda were living wi th their sister, Emily, and her family on the 1860 Grant County census.

The first official record of William's return to Indiana is from the India na Masonic records. He joined the Xenia Masonic Lodge, in Miami Count y, on July 31, 1860. On November 20, 1860 he married his fourth wife, Mary Pence Long. Mary was the daughter of Martin Pence and Elizabe th Corder. Mary was the widow of Adolphus R. Long when she married Willia m. William and Mary had two daughters: Melissa and Alice R. Melissa marri ed Elijah Williams. Alice was married twice. Her first husband was Ebenez er Williams, the second was Joseph N. Dilkes. The cemetery in Richland Township of Grant County Indiana is owned by t he Odd Fellow Lodge of Converse and is called the Converse Cemetery. It w as laid out in 1872. A history of Miami County says on page 318 "in 18 72 a cemetery costing $2000 was laid out near the town." The present cemetery has had bodies reinterred in it after having been re moved from a small family cemetery which was located in the heart of wh at is now Converse and from a family cemetery a short distance south call ed the Pence Cemetery. Referring to old histories of these two counti es I find some items of interest. The old Atlas of 1877 says "William Tay lor settled the Martin Pence farm where the Delphi road crosses Taylor Cre ek at an early day.

Notes for Consolver from rickyrg@networksplus.net (Betty J. Gaulding) John (Jonathan) son of Charles & Mary, was born ca 1756 in VA (possibly Al bemarle Co. but not confirmed). He served in Rev War and was wounded and b elieve lost an arm. He received a Rev War pension so you should be ab le to obtain his war records from the National Archives. He died ca 18 09 in Washington Co., VA. Was married twice. First to Nancy ALLEN, a d au of Mary (don't have her father's name). Second to Millie ROBERTSON (som etimes shown as ROBIINSON) 8 Apr 1794 in Bedford Co., VA. Certificate sho ws she was of age. James CONWAY, Surety. I belive that Millie may have mar ried again after Jonathan died but not sure but the Washington Co., VA rec ords should show some light on that. Check the DAR Rev War Books and I th ink you will find both his father, Charles, and Jonathan as well as his br others, Micajah and possibly James, having been recorded by others who joi ned DAR. I just have not followed up on that as the brother, Martin Jorda n, is my wife's ancestor. Since Jacob, son of Jonathan was born in June 17 96, obviously, Millie was his mother. Jacob died in 1850 age 54 in Shel by Co., OH, according to Ohio Mortality records. He married Rachel ARCH ER 9 Sep 1811 in Montgomery Co., OH, possibly at Dayton. He was list ed in the Miami Co., OH 1820 and 1830 Census records. From what I can determine from my notes, Jacob and Rachel had sons, Jaco b, Abraham, Isaac and possibly daughters, Anna, Elixabeth, Millie and may be others but I did not follow up on the daughters, except we have a confl ict on the marriage to Samuel MYERS. I mentioned previously that my wife 's GGFather's sister, Elicabeth, married a Samuel MYERS 6 Nov 1842 in Hock ing Co., OH. This Samuel was born 16 Jan 1814 and died 25 Apr 1886 and bo th he and Elizabeth are buried in cemetery at Meade, Pickaway Co., OH. The refore, from the dates you give on Samuel Hershey MYERS, it is obvious th at these are two different Samuel's. I have recorded that Samuel b 1814 w as the son of Daniel and Diana (DOVER) MYERS. An 1860 Pickaway Co., OH cen sus record for them lists children as Ellen, Rachel, and Mary and also a J acob age 71 is listed but since I did not record the last name for hi m, I don't know whether he was a MYERS or not. Probably be a good id ea to check that out next time I have access to the 1860 census at the lib rary. It could not be Jabob CONSOLVER as he died in 1850.in Shelby Co. Getting back to the conflict in our records, I have Millie CONSOLVER marri ed to Samuel MYERS 18 Mar 1878 in Shelby Co., OH. Marriage Book 6, page 5 5. Married by P. HART. Interesting enough is that you also show 18 Mar 18 76 as both the date of death of Samuel Hershey MYERS and date of marria ge to Mary Elizabeth CONSOLVER. This should take some checking on your pa rt in order to clarify that. You have indicated Mary Elizabeth to be d au of Abraham and Elizabeth (BATES) CONSOLVER, which is probably corre ct as 1860 Shelby Co., OH census shows their children as Samuel M, a ge 7; Mary L. (probably E.) age 4 and Caroline age 2. The latter is not co rrect as I have Caroline's birth date as 3 Dec 1859, being born at Jacks on Center, Shelby Co., OH. When she married Lewis McFARLAND 2 Jun 1877, Bo ok 6, Page 131, her fther gave concent as she was not 18 years old.The bro ther Samuel M. married Cynthia BECK 26 Feb 1883 Book 6 Page 559.

I have an Elizabeth CONSOLVER married to Abraham RINEHARD 29 Oct 1843 by J ames SMITH, MG Book 1 & 2 Page 402 Shelby Co., OH Believe this to be Jacob 's dau Elizabeth. Jabob's son Isaac S. married Jane HALL 12 Sep 1843 by We sley ROLAND, JP, Book 1 & 2 Page 394 Shelby Co., OH They are buried in Gl en Cemetery, sw of Point Jefferson. Isaac was born 12 May 1819 Montgome ry Co., OH and died 18 Aug 1898, age 79 in Salem Twp, Shelby Co. 1860 Cens us shows their children as: William 17; Jacob A. 14; Julia A. 12; Rachel 1 0; Mary 8; Nancy A. 6 and David H. 3 (b 10 Oct 1856). Whether they had oth er children I don't know. This is the extent of what I have other than so me other marriages which you can probably find in the Shelby Co., OH marri age records. You might also look in the Ross Co., OH records. Hope that th is gives you some insight as to what I have on your line. Would be most in terested in learning more about where you located the marriage record of S amuel Hershey MYERS and Mary Elizabeth CONSOLVER, etc.

[HI33382] (Research):Samuel Myers evidently served in the Spanish American War. We were unab le to locate a uniform that resembles the one he is wearing, but were ab le to find the insignia on his cap. This insignia is of two crossed canno ns, signifying that he was in the Artillary. Below the pin hangs a numb er or a letter. If a number, it is the number of the regiment and if a let ter, it would be the battery within the regiment. It seems to be eith er a # 1 or the letter "I". A search of Spanish American Medals was not su ccessful in locating the medal he wore on his chest in this photo.

I spoke to my sister last night (she is not into genealogy) -- however s he is always helpful in remembering certain sotries of our family. She sa id she remembers our grandfather Forest A. Myers speaking of relatives th at owned land by Old Man's Cave in Ohio. We visited that site many tim es as children and when we lived in Ohio, we also took our children.

I came up and looked at family pictures of my grandfather and he is leani ng on the sign that points to Old Man's Cave -- then some of the informati on Jean was telling me started to come back. Yes indeed, it was mention ed in our family.

I looked up Old Man's Cave and it is in Hocking Hills - near Logan, Ohi o. Then I remembered that a Samuel Myers married Elizabeth Consolver ba ck in Nov. 6, 1842 in Logan, Hocking, Ohio.

Their daughter Susannah who married Benjamin Franklin P heneger is my 2nd great grandmother. Benj and Susannah were married in Log an county and she is buried there. We visited the grave when we were in B ellfontaine on Wednesday.

From 2004 My great-grandfather's sister, Emma Van Fossen, was married to a Jose ph H. Argabright on February 6, 1904. Emma's third marriage was to Geor ge P. Sweigert. Her first marriage was to Henry Welsheimer on July 31, 18 99. Emma and George had a daughter named Georgia. Emma died October 2 0, 1962 and she and George are buried at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco. I nterestingly enough, my Dad vaguely remembers that he and my Uncle were h er paper boys for awhile. Dad remembers that she was in a wheelchair a nd had had her legs amputated. He knew she was related somehow but not t he exact connection. We figured out who she was because she was livi ng in the house that used to belong to John and Nancy Jane Van Fossen (h er parents) on Walnut Street in Sidney.

Emma's third marriage was to George P. Sweigert. -- after 1910 census. George and Emma have a 7 year old daughter (Georgia V.) in 1920 census -- Emma is 40 years old-- Shelby Co, Sidney, ED 198 Sheet 9

[NI33601] Concord Items Jan 9, 1879
We met a few days since at the home of our distinguished relative, Mr. Wesley Diltz, Mr. Amos Kennard, a native of Cynthiana, Ky., and who served ten years as Sheriff of Shelby county, 0., and Recorder for three years, between the years 1835 and 1848. HE is a hale, hearty gentleman of seventy-five years, and true type of the pioneer citizen. (by Specs Jr.)

[HI33601] (Research):Diltz Chapel (Methodist Episcopal) was organized in 1838 by Wesley Dilt z, Wesley Yocum, Amos Jackson and Mrs. Sarah Bidwell, at the house of Wesl ey Diltz-now occupied by Wesley Yocum. Rev. George W. Walker was the fir st officiating clergyman. They at once proceeded to erect a log buildin g, 26x22, in which services were held for upward of twenty years. In abo ut 1850, the present frame structure, 20x26, was erected. Rev. J. T. Ba il preached the dedicatory sermon. The church now consists of about seven ty members, who dwell in unity together. Services are conducted every Sabb ath by Rev. Smith

WESLEY DILTZ, farmer; P. O. Cable; is a native of Kentucky. He was born Ap ril 22, 1801. At the age of 3 years, he came with his parents to Warren Co ., and at the age of 8 or 9 to this county, where he has remained ever sin ce. He is a son of Joseph and Mary Jarrard Diltz-Joseph was a native of N ew Jersey, of German descent; Mary Jarrard was of English parentage. Th ey were parents of twelve children, six boys and six girls-Susan, John, Jo seph, Sallie, Samuel, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Wesley, Cynthia, Jarrard, Wilkin son and Mary-all of whom lived to maturity except Joseph and Mary, he dyi ng of croup at the age of 4, and she dying at 7, probably of king's evi l. Joseph Diltz came to this county in 1808 or 1809, and located whe re he lived to the time of his death, which occurred June 7, 1824, in t he 72d year of his age. He was one of the first settlers of this county, c oming here when the timid deer and turkey went almost unmolested through t he deep forests and dense thickets. Bears were also in abundance, and ga me of every description easily obtained. Our subject was joined in matrimo ny to Cynthia Kennard Nov. 22, 1825. They were parents of nine children, t hree boys and six girls, seven of whom are still living, two little girls- Lavina and Sarah Jane-having died of whooping-cough. Although Mr. Diltz re ceived his education in the old log schoolhouse of his time and was oblig ed to go three miles to attend, he is an intelligent and interesting old g entleman, and furnishes facts with readiness and ease. He has been a farm er all his life, but has now retired from active pursuits. and is enjoyi ng the fruits of his early labors. He and his wife are members of the Meth odist Episcopal Church, with which they have labored for half a centu ry in the cause of the Master.

Jonathan Consolver was literate (there is a remarkable signature for a one -armed, handless man), and his name is consistently spelled that way in t he tax lists of Bedford Co, VA for 1782, 1785, 1787-1791, 1794, 1796-179 9, 1801, 1803-1807, and in the tax lists of Washington Co, VA for 1809. T he same spelling is used in his Rev War service record (2/15/1776-5/29/17 80 6th VA Regt, consolidated into 2nd VA Regt) and in his pension record ( except one payment record as John Consolvo). His presence in Bedford C o, VA is attested as early as 10/21/1779, when he posted bond for the marr iage of Samuel Woodward and Celia Brown. A letter from A D Hiller, Execut ive Assistant to the Administrator, US Archives, to Wythe Leigh Kinsolvin g, dated 4/14/1938, states that John Consolver died before 3/4/1810. Virg inia printed up lists of Revolutionary War pensioners at various dates, a nd there are extant lists for Jan 1787 and Dec 1788. Both list Jonathan C onsolver as age 27. I have estimated his age under the assumption that t he age given in these lists refers to the beginning of his pension (Dec 17 80). Bedford Co VA records show Jonathan Consolver married Milley Robins on (or Robertson) 4/8/1794. Milley Consolver appears as a widow on the t ax list of Washington Co VA 1810, and as head of a household in the 1810 c ensus of Washington Co VA p750.

NOTE: In the 1870 Census Clark Co., OH- Springfield Twp.- pg. 372b, sever al WILDERSON children are listed separetly from their parents. Thery ar e: Charles Wilderson age 11, George W. Wilderson age 6, William H. Wilders on age 5, Jacob A. age 4, and Rose Belle Wilderson age 2. It is believed t hat they were not living with their parents, Henry age 33 (wagon maker) a nd Mary WILDERSON age 32 (listed as family #88-Springfield Twp- Pg. 376b ), because Henry was living in Cincinnati attending medical school. The ag es of the children correspond with Henry and Mary Wildasin's childre n. It appears that two of her children, William H. and Rose Belle, died be fore the 1880 census of which they are not listed and that Jacob A. Wilder son is the same child as Andrew J. Wildasin, both were born in 1866.

[HI33882] (Research):CCGS Newsletter Winter 2005 Vol 21 No3 pg 79 "The bringing of the bodies of Arthur Thomas and son after they were murde red by the Indians at Solomons Springs" How few of the present generati on know anything about the above occurrence even as a matter of history. M en who were living then and were congnizant of the occurrence, are few a nd far between at this time, perhaps not more than a half dozen in the cou nty — if indeed that many~ Who was Arthur Thomas and son, and where did th ey live? These are questions which if not answered, and then, preserved, w ill soon sink into utter oblivion, and the time of the sad occurrence, a nd the place of the abode of the murdered men will soon be forgotten. We h ave no knowledge of the exact date of the emigration of Mr. Thomas to th is county, yet he was here at a very early day, perhaps as early as 180 5, if not earlier. He settled near the mouth of Kings creek, in Salem town ship on the exact spot now occupied by his grand-daughter Mrs. Celinda Bat es, Mr. Thomas erected the first mifi ever built in the county, the mill s tanding opposite Mrs. Bates orchard between the road and the creek, the p lace being easily distinguished by the remains of the old head race on t he opposite side of the road. Until within the last few years the mudsif is of the old mill were plainly visible from the road, but these have disa ppeared and only the mifi site and headrace now remain as mementos of t he energy and usefulness of Mr. Thomas in his day and generation. He and h is son were killed on the night of August 8, 1813, simultaneously with t he birth of our friend Mr. Presly Talbott. They had left the balance of t he company to look after their horses, which had strayed away, and not fin ding them had camped at the spring, doubtless with the intention of pursui ng the search for their horses the following day. When found they were han ging by their feet and had been disemboweled, and their intestines wrapp ed around their necks. Their remains were brought to Urbana for intermen t, and a search among the ruins on the east side of the old graveyard in t he northeast part of the town will reveal the burial place of Arthur Thom as and son..., Specs, Jr Feb 22 1883, Concord, Ohio Copied as written in original.

Beers History Jacob Johnson and Matthew Stewart settled on King's Creek, and Arthur Thom as about four miles north of Urbana. The latter, who was a Captain in t he war of 1812, was ordered, with his company, to guard the public sto re at Fort Findlay. On his return, having lost his horses, he and his s on separated from the rest of the company to hunt for them. They encamp ed at the Big Spring, near Solomonstown, about five miles north of Bellefo ntaine, and the next morning were found killed and scalped. Their bodies w ere brought to Urbana by a deputation of citizens.

These were a tub mill by Arthur Thomas, a tub-mill by Joseph Petty, a nd an overshot mill by John Taylor.

[HI33923] (Research):St Paris News Dispatch, Thursday, Jan 14, 1926 Mrs Solon Zerkle is Suddenly Taken Well Known Lady Was Ill But A Few Minutes. Sarah E Zerkle, wife of Solon Zerkle, living one and a half miles ea st of town, died Thursday evening at nine o'clock after only a few minut es illnes from an attack of the heart. She had been in seemingly good heal th and her sudden passing was a great shock to the family and her firend s. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev Samuel Furrow at the Bap tist Church Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Interment took place at Evergreen Ce metery with Bert Richeson in charge. Sarah Elizabeth erkle, daughter of Al vin A and Margaret E Kite was born May 17, 1849 and departed this life Thu rsday evening, January 7, 1926, aged 76 years, 7 months, and 20 days. S he was united in marriage with Solon Zerkle Dec 21, 1864. To this union we re norn a daughter, Lillie Mae Talbott, of Pittsburg, Penn; and two son s, Claude D Zerkle of Springfield; and Warren Earl Zerkle of St paris. "Li zzie" as she was known to her family and friends leaves to mourn her sudd en death, her devoted hisband, theee children, six grandchildren, four gre at grandchildren, her aged brother, Jason P Kite, besides a legion of frie nds. She joined the church in early girlhood and lived a consistant christ ian life. Devoted to her home and family, she lived and labored for the m. On account of her sudden going, the following poem is deemed very appro priate to her death:

"No trembling, and farewell from her quivering lips was heard; So softly she crossed that quiet stream, was not by a ripple stirred. She was spared the parting of tears, She was spared the mortal strife; It was scarcely dying-she only passed, In a moment to endless life. So low was her Master's call, that it did not reach our ears; But she heard the sound and herquick response, was full of joy-no fears. Weep not for her soft release from Earthly pain and care; Nor grieve that she reached her home and rest, Er'e she knew that she w as there. But think of the sweet surprize, the sudden and strange delight; She felt as she met her Saviour's smile, and walked with Him a while. Weep not, for her tolls are o'er, and they race may soon be won; So with sandaled feet and staff in hand, Let thy work for thy Lord be done ."

Charles I have him posted as being from WHALES. However, other researche rs seem to have done considerable searching to establish that without suc cess. So who knows where Charles came from. He could have been a son of o ne of the earlier (1600's) CONSOLVO's recorded in Accomack Co., VA record sThere were John and William CONSOLVO's listed in Accvomack Tithables 166 3-1695 and William was listed in 1704 Accomack Quick Rent Rolls. Wheth er these are CONSOLVER's I don't have the foggiest idea but some have sa id they were. A Thomas CONSOLVO listed in 1739 Amelia Co., VA Tithables l iving on Flatt Creek. This area I believe may have been in the Cumberla nd Parish territory

Military Records: Virginia in the Revolution and War of 1812 Revolutionary War Soldiers and Sailors, Surnames, C-D, Page 19 Land Bounty Warrant- John and Mary Consolver, Pvt- Va Cont Line, 3 yrs, 8/ 13/1784

Another theory of name CONSOLVER: Surname derived from Gundislav, a name c ompounded by the Visigoths of NW Spain and later latinized in Gundisalvu s. It was eroded by centuries of use into Gonsalvo, consalvo, Gonzalo, e tc and engendered the patronymic forms Goncalves, Gonsalves and Gonzale z. Somehow a bearer of this name in its Portuguese form found his way to s eventeenth century Virginia and settled in Accomac County on the Eastern S hore. The Virginia State Library and the National Archives contain numero us documents establishing Revolutionary War service for Charles. Note: Fr om "Descendants of James Kinsolving: son of Charles Consolver" compil ed by Walter Ovid Kinsolving from material accumulated by Wythe Leigh a nd Herschel Porter Kinsolving:

Charles Consolver fought in the American Revolution as a private in the 6t h, 7th and 10th Virginia regiments from 1778 to 1781, and is said to ha ve been a member of the Guard of Honour which welcomed Lafayette to Virgin ia. He was killed in the Battle of the Cowpens. His surnames has variant e ndings in the records: -vin, -ven, -vant, -vent. (A listing of the deaths at the Battle of Cowpens does not name Charles Co nsolver)

[HI33983] (Research):Son of John Griest (1694-1748) and Martha Baldwin (1694-1751) The name is Welsh and was at one time spelled with an "e" on the end: GRIE STE. William Penn converted John Grieste to the Quaker faith and when t he friends were persecuted in the British Isles, John and his family of t en sons migrated to Holland. Sorry, but I do not know the name of John's w ife. After going to Holland, some of the sons married their and brought th eir Dutch wives over to Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. John Gries te was settled on the Delaware prior to Penn's first visit to the colony p rior to 1682. he died in 1688. In 1694, his son GEORGE GRIEST was appoint ed to appraise land and in 1700 was one of the 113 inhabitants in and arou nd Chichester who signed a petition to the Governor and council to have t wo fairs in the town of Chichester (Chichester Twp, Delaware Co. on the Pe nna-Del line). His son John Griest, born in 1694, was the first squatt er on land west of the Susquehanna. He was forcibly removed and confin ed at Philadelphia for the offense of entering unpurchased Indian land s. In 1738, among the first settlers coming to this new land west of the S usquehanna River was John Griest, an English Quaker. Griest built for h is family a two-story limestone blockhouse, 16 foot square. The Griest hom e, erected only five years after Penn's heirspermitted land grants to be i ssued in York Co, Pa, was the first inn west of the river, know as "Ye O ld Valley Inn". In 1755, the title to the property passed to another own er and it was demolished in 1962 to make way for a shopping center. It w as located on the north side of Lincoln Highway, Route 30, two miles ea st of York, Pa. That was some information that my Aunt had found. She desc ribes her information as scattered records and old recollections carried d own through the family. I am a part of the 11th generation in the informat ion that I have so far been given. Aunt Paule is still living and could ha ve even more info, but for now here is a plot of "THE GENERATIONS" starti ng with John Grieste in the mid 1600's..also, please note that their a re no dates of birth or even death and no information of marriages for so me of the generations, but with time all of these mysteries will be uncove red....
