Sarah Jane is my direct ancestor and Sarah Jane m James ASHING in 1798 or 1799 in Mason Co., KY (have seen two dates) Blanche Ford signed the certificate stating that Sarah was of age. (Research):THE FAMILY OF ELIZABETH MILLER BATDORF INCLUDING HER CHILDREN BY MILLER Denise K. Moore Page 9 4/9/01 P. O. Box 752 Gautier, MS 39553-0752 References to look for: 1. An estate record for the Miller husband of Elizabeth Miller Batdor f. If he died in Clark County, Ohio he did not leave a will because the da ta from the Will Books have been copied by the Clark County Kin (Clark County Kin, published by the Clark County Genealogical Societ y, P. O. Box 2524, Springfield, Ohio 45501-2524). There was not a will lis ted in those books that the testator has not been placed. However, the Mil ler father may have purchased land in Clark County (or elsewhere) and t he estate record will be on file in the Chancery Court Records. The peri od 1818 through 1838should be checked. Often the estate was not present ed to court until after the widow had remarried. 2. Guardianship records for the children. If the father died seiz ed of an estate the children would have had guardians appointed. These gua rdians would be responsible to the court for the estate until the children reached the age of emancipation. 3. Estate papers for Elizabeth Miller Batdorf. When John Batdorf Senior di ed in 1858 he held 33 acres of land in Section 20 of Johnson Township. Und er the law, Elizabeth was entitled to 11 acres (1/3); the children of John would have split the other 2/3s. Elizabeth could ha ve done one of two things (1) retained the 11 acres to live on (2) sold t he acreage. If she sold the acreage and purchased another plot of land a nd retained it until her death than this land would be her landed estate a nd had to be divided among her children; both of the first marriage and t he second. Elizabeth Miller Batdorf did not leave a will. The will boo ks of Champaign County have been researched. The Chancery Records of Champ aign County are being produced by Pat Stickley and myself. However, we ha ve not covered the period, at this time, that would have revealed Elizabet h’s estate. I do not have all of the Johnson Township land deed index a nd therefore am unable to check to see if Elizabeth held land in her own r ight after the death of John.

Willoughby Heath, whose death was announced last week, was bom in Loudoun county, Virginia, Dec. 19, 1805, and brought to this State early in life. In 1824 he married Miss Prudence Rogers, by whom he had eleven children. In 1873 his wife died away from home, while on a visit to friends in Logan county. After his second marriage, he left this county, where he had resided for more than a half a century, and removed to Mercer county. A few days prior to his sickness, he came to visit his friends at his home, and was taken violently ill at his old homestead, where he died on the 28th ult. A strange coincidence that both husband and wife should die away from home. His funeral services took place at Concord on Tuesday, April 30, under the direction of Rev. Samuel Murray, of the German Baptist church, a resident of Covington, 0. Mr. H. was an excellent man and enjoyed the universal respect of his fellowmen. (Specs Jr)

Does this sound familiar? We are certain that my Sarah JAne and my friend /cousin's Mary were siblings. We have entered several FORD men that we re voters in 1811 as brothers of Sarah and Mary, but we are not positive of all of them.
Further, I have copy of estate sale of Thomas West 1814 (year from memory) in Champaign Co. We know that Thomas was either probable brother of Blanche WEST Ford, or outside possibility that he was even her father. I have document where officers in Mason Co., KY were checking to see if Thomas had land there before his estate could be settled in Champ. Co. He did not. I can send you a copy of the estate sale if that would be of interest.
You no doubt know of Tolson Ford. We think he was one of the sons of James and Blanche West Ford. All of these people: Francis and Mary Ford Stevenson, James and Sarah Jane Ashing, and Tolson Ford went to Allen Co ., OH ca. 1830 after selling their land in Champaign Co. Other Fords as well.
While on this subject, do you by any miracle know who URIAH FORD that m. Rachel REESE in Champ. Co. 1832 was? He had land in Allen Co., OH right wh ere the rest of the family lived. And is buried in same cemetery with so me of the desc. of my own lines. We do have puzzles and mysteries howev er that we work on trying to solve constantly.
Enough for this time. Can you help? Anita «u»anitajean@cfl.rr.com «/u»
HISTORY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY.CONCORD TOWNSHIP. BY T. S. M'FARLAND. Page 4 92 - In the same neighborhood, since the glories of Heathtown have passed away, the village of Crayon has been inaugurated. It has contained for a number of years a dry goods store, owned by various parties. The post office, Crayon, is the only one in the township, and was established about two years ago. James W. Heath is Postmaster. The village contains some four or five dwelling houses, besides a blacksmith-shop, now owned by Ira
Poffenbarger. Simeon Harbor, S. J. Neer, T. H. Ford, John Clark, Jacob Sarver and David Pool compose the leading citizens of the vicinity.
Urbana Citizen and Gazette 12/19/1878 Some days since the eldest son of Mr T H Ford, of this township, started on a visit to his uncle , near Roundhead. Under the direction of his
father (the boy being a minor) he stopped at a livery stable in Bellefontaine to feed his horse, a valuable family nag. During his brief stay at the stable, one Alexander Daniels, notorious for his croockedness in horse dealing, managed to get the animal out of young Ford's custody and drove it away. The boy returned home and notified his father of what had
occured. Mr Ford proceeded at once to Bellefontaine and in a short time saw his mare upon the street in the hands of a stranger. He procured a warra t fro, Esq Humphries and replevined the mare, T S McFarland appearing for the plaintiff and Dickinson & Walker for the defendants. The defense evidently finding themselves in a strait, proposed a compromise and the case was amicably adjusted, and Mr Ford returned home with his mare.
EXPOSURE SLAYS MAN T. HINES FORD DIES AT HOME OF HIS SON NEAR FLETCHER
T. Hines Ford, 80, died at the home of his son, James Ford, two miles sout heast of Fletcher, Wednesday morning of pneumonia. Mr. Hines was one of t he most beloved men in Brown township, and was generally called "Daddie" by his friends. He was an unusually robust man and the Illness that caused his death is attributed to unnecessary exposure some time ago against the advice of his family. This fall he had helped with the husking of the corn and was usually about some work on the farm until his illness that lasted only a week. It was a common sight to see him plowing and he walked behind the plow with a military stride and covered as many acres as most young men could turn over in a day. About 20 years ago he removed to Brown township from Degraff and had lived there ever since. He was a veteran of the Civil war, having enlisted in company B, 134th 0. V. I. His wife has been dead many years, but five children survive him. They are James, with whom he made his home. Frank, who lives at Rosewood, Mrs. Edward Friend of DeGraff, Mrs. Nixon of
Deercreek, Ill. and Mrs. A L Walbron of east of Piqua. At the time of his death the children were all at his bedside. The funeral services will be conducted at the Fletcher M. E. church Friday morning at 11 o'clock and the interment will be in the Fletcher cemetery. (Piecing together information from many sources, I have Mrs. Edward Friend as "Miriam V."; Mrs. Nixon as "Etna"; Mrs A L Walborn as "Nellie". I also show a da. "Sallie" who d. before 1881. Total of 7 children as near as I can tell. John H., James and Frank plus the four girls.)

The grandfather, Matthew Organ, was a native of Ireland, and was o ne of those struggling for the liberty of his countrymen; he was compell ed to flee to America to save his life, arriving about the time of the Rev olutionary war. He enlisted as a soldier, fighting for the independen ce of the Colonists, and lost his life at Yorktown, Penn. [M.O. Regan not e: Matthew and his father John Sr. were both in the Revolutionary wa r. It was John who died at Yorktown, not Matthew. Matthew is buried in T uscarawas Co. Ohio where the DAR erected a monument over his grave.] Willi am was a very early settler of Ohio, and in 1823, became a resident of Cha mpaign Co., where he lived till 1843, when he was accidentally killed by t he falling of a tree. Of his thirteen children, eight now survive James, A ndrew, Samuel, Jane, Rebecca, Benjamin Sloan, Walter and Lydia Ann. Samu el was married in 1833, to Miss Lydia E., daughter of Capt. Marion, w ho was in McClellan's army, broke down from fatigue and over-work, and w as taken home from Harper's Ferry, where he lingered about two years and d ied. These were two of the brave lives sacrificed for their country's libe rty. Mr. Organ's wife died July 4, 1863. In 1868, he was married to Caroli ne M., daughter of Jacob Snyder, a native of West Virginia. Mr. Organ h as been a resident of this township since 1823, and has lived on his prese nt location for forty-five years. He has a fine farm of 148 acres in the v alley near Cable Town, with good improvements. He and wife are membe rs of the M. E. Church, with which he has been connected for forty-one yea rs. Mr. Organ ranks among the early settlers; is cherished and belov ed by all, and, notwithstanding his long residence, does not know of havi ng a single enemy. Since our last, Mr. Flemon Hall and family took their departure for Murfreesborough, Tenn. Mr. H. is the owner of a farm of 315 acres, embracing a considerable portion of the battleground known in history as the "Battle of Murfreesborough." Few men engage in a deadly contest with an enemy hundreds of miles from the land of their nativity and afterwards become the owner in fee simple of the ground that they helped to drench with human gore. Mr. Hall has the best wishes of many of his friends in the west end, being as he is a man of unswerving integrity and devotion to right under circumstances where ordinary men fail to comprehend the right. His former homestead, "White Oak Hall," an engraving of which is found in our lately published county atlas, situated in Adams township, is now occupied by Mr. Hezekiah Piles

John's grave has not been located, but his wife is buri ed in the Lutheran Cemetery on the north side of St. Paris along Kizer La ke Road (Nixon & Bolton). (Joe A. Batdorf, 3821 Sunshine Lane, Placerville, CA, 95667, lo co@innercite.com on 4 February 1998, stated that John Christian Batdorf w as born 8 July 1780; died 1 July 1857; buried on 3 July 1857 in Spring Gro ve Cemetery, Millerstown, Johnson Township, Champaign County). John's esta te was settled in Champaign County Court of Common Pleas, Chancery Reco rd Book 28, Page 575 - Filed 13 April 1860 - Petition for Partition and Do wer - John Batdorf vs Elizabeth Batdorf & Others. Joe A. Batdorf has stat ed that John Batdorf first married, in 1804, Elizabeth Klopp from Christ M ills, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth was born in 1784 and died in 1819. On 15 Sep tember 1836, John Batdorf married Elizabeth Miller, widow, in Clark Count y, Ohio and that she was the grandmother of two Deffenbaugh children that she and John Batdorf raised. He further stated t hat Elizabeth was born in 1800. Joe A. Batdorf’s research has also uncover ed data that John Batdorf first moved to Ohio around 1827 settling in Gree ne County. In 1837, John and Lizzie (Elizabeth) Batdorf sold their fa rm in Greene County to Peter Batdorf, John’s son. The Mitman Cemetery in F airborn, Greene County, was once part of the land owned by John Batdorf a nd had apparently been used by the Batdorf family as a cemetery. Some, but not all, of the land transactions that John and Elizabeth Batdo rf performed in Champaign Count: On 2 April 1839, John purchased 115 acr es of land located in the north-west quarter of Section 28 Township 3 Ran ge 11 (Jackson Township) from Elias & Hannah Anderson (Champaign County Deed Book Q, Page 37). On 4 April 1839, John purchased 153 acres locat ed in the south-west quarter of Section 24 Township 3 Range 11 (Johnson To wnship) from Christian & Sarah Heaston (Champaign County Deed Book Q, Pa ge 36). On 12 March 1841, John & Elizabeth sold 139.4 acres of this la nd to Joseph Stover, Daniel Groves Jr. & Benjamin Stover (Champaign Coun ty Deed Book W, Page 305) and the rest of the 153 acres to Samuel Huffman on 18 January 18 49 (Champaign County Deed Book U, Page 266). Owning land in both Jackson a nd Johnson townships in 1840, John was residing in Johnson Township. As to the 115 acres of land owned by John a nd Elizabeth in Section 24 of Jackson Township, they sold off 50 square fe et to representatives of the Jackson Township School District Numb er 6 on 28 January 1840 (Champaign County Deed Book Q, Page 625) a nd on 30 May 1845 they sold the rest of the land to Jacob Batdorf (Champai gn County Deed Book S, Page 350, one of the witnesses to this deed was Jer emiah Miller). However, on 26 September 1850 Jacob & Christina Batdorf so ld the acreage back to John Batdorf (Champaign County Deed Book X, Page 51 ).
On 19 December 1845 John purchased lot numbers 10 & 21 in St. Paris from J acob & Christina Batdorf for $550 (Champaign County Deed Book T, Page 35 ). On 29 April 1848 John & Elizabeth sold lot number 10 to Henry Huffman f or $25.00 (Champaign County Deed Book U, Page 37) and on 26 September 18 50 they resold lot number 21 to Jacob Batdorf for $700.00, making qui te a profit (Champaign County Deed Book W, Page 400). When John Batdorf S r. died in 1858 he was seized of 33 acres located in the south-east corn er of the south-west quarter of Section 20 Township 3 Range 12 (Johnson To wnship) (Reference: Chancery Record Book 28, Page 575 - Filed 13 April 18 60 - Petition for Partition and Dower - John Batdorf vs Elizabeth Batdo rf & Others). Until more research has been conducted in the Champaign Coun ty land deeds it will not be known when John purchased this land. John Bat dorf had several people witnesses his land transactions. A study has be en made in order to determine if any of these witnesses appeared to be rel ated to John. Lewis Noe signed as a witness to four deeds examined and h is brother, Lot Noe, signed as a witness on one deed. At this time there d oes not appear to be any relationship between the Noe family and the Batdo rf family. Lemuel Taylor, husband of Emily Noe, a resident of Johnson Town ship, signed as a witness in two deeds, 1840 and 1845 – find no appare nt relationship except through the Noe family. One can see by the 1850 Jac kson township census that the Noe families were neighbors of Jeremiah Mill er, and probably close friends. Jeremiah Miller, believed by this autho r, to be the son of Elizabeth Miller Batdorf, witnesses one deed in 184 5. Solomon G. Brecount, Adam Maggart and George Williams, all residen ts of Johnson Township, also have no apparent relationship with John nor E lizabeth Batdorf. William Williams, a resident of Johnson Township, was li sted as born in Pennsylvania, however, no relationship was apparent. Of a ll of the men, except, Solomon G. Brecount, one can conclude that they we re residents that apparently lived in the neighborhood of the land own ed by John Batdorf. Solomon G. Brecount may have been a witness becau se he was a Justice of the Peace and the same can be said of Lewis Noe.

Burial record exists for T.E. Walborn for section 1 lot 58 for Evergreen. There are no dates listed for the burial in Evergreen. This record is next to Walborn Mary Celina in the same section and lot.
For Evergreen it is listed as a burial. There are no dates associated on the record.
For Spring Grove there is a date of internment.
I am assuming the record for Evergreen is not accurate due to no internment date. However I will agree with a burial in Spring Grove due to an internment date
