(Research):Denise sent me abstracts of deeds relating to the estate of Wesley Pence ( husband of Lydia Ammon) and these show clearly that the Isaac Pence who ma rried Charity Hulling was the son of this couple (deeds form Isaac and Cha rity to other family members).-From Richard Pence 12/2004
ISAAC PENCE was born in Ohio; died - May 1891; married Charity Hulling er 29 Mar 1885 in Champaign County, Ohio (she was born 12 Sep 1868 in Ohi o, the daughter of Samuel and Rebecca Hulling); she remarried to Henry Bov ine 15 Jun 1901 in Allen County, Indiana, and they were in Allen Coun ty in 1910 with two Bovine children and her son Guy Pence, age 17; Hen ry is listed as an invalid and her occupation was doing laundry at home; t he Pence family members are not found in any other census index. Children:
NELLIE PENCe was born about 1886. SAMUEL PENCE was born - May 1888. GUY PENCE was born - Jul 1891 in Ohio.
Per Richard Pence, 9/2004- I think this Isaac Pence married Olive Warrick in Clark County; they we re in Logan County in 1900 and in Clark County in 1930. He has the initi al R. in both of these records. Family not found in 1910 and 1920.

Experiment Proves That it is Better to Bury in a Cement Casing
Engineer McDargh of the water works, has proven to his satisfaction that it is much better to bury in a cement casing then in a metallic sealed casket. Four years ago he took a frog which had died and put it in a tin can. He covered the can with cement and after it dried he buried the same in a ditch close to his residence. The cement block had never been touched from. that day until one day last week when Mr. McDargh unearthed the same and breaking open the can found the frog in perfect state of composition. It was proven to him that cement tends to throw off dampness, while metal collects the moisture.
CCGS Newsletter Sept 1998 pg94-95 Urbana, OH, 1937 This museum often referred to as "Urbana Historical Museum", is locat ed at the home of Mr. Charles McDargh at 422 Storms Avenue, Urbana, Ohi o. Mr. McDargh is National Commander of the G.A.R. having been in the Civ il War and a member of one of the companies which marched with General She rman from "Atlanta to The Sea". Being at the present time 93 years of a ge but unusually active for one of his age and greatly interested in his e xtensive prized collection. One would hardly conceive of the wealth of historical evidence this veter an has collected, as a spare time hobby ranging over a period of abo ut 60 years during which time his innumerable friends all over the USA ha ve presented to him most of this historical wealth. Although one of the largest private collections known in the country it co mprises mainly the more artistic and finer relics rather than the large cl umsy articles commonly seen. A careful resume of these innumerable objects constitutes a course in hist ory antedating several periods of life and development in our country. In this collection are to be found more than a hundred muskets, rifles, pi stols and shotguns of various types, makes and from many periods. Of speci al mention is an old time six foot squirrel gun having been as it's name i mplies, especially adapted to squirrel hunting. Some of these guns date fr om the Colonial pioneer Indian fighting to the last World War. A powder horn, water pot and various pewter-ware articles used by the Puri tans in the Colonial Period. A musk ox head which was excavated from a dep th of 10 feet on the Jennings farm on the state auto route 54 northwe st of Urbana said to be the only one so far as known to ever be found in C hampaign County. There are two interesting human skulls one of which has a dart piercing t he center of the side of the head excavated from a depth of 20 feet at t he Greenville gravel pit at Muzzy's Lake near Urbana and another small sku ll found in the pit of the Lake Erie gravel pit near Sandusky, Ohio, beari ng evidence of having been severed by a blunt instmment. A large novel, historical and valuable chair, constructed by Mr. McDargh h as a seat made from the vertebra of a whale and the legs and arched ba ck of the chair are of walrus tusks of pure ivory: This unusual material w as presented to Mr. McDargh by Rear Admiral Fyffe on his return from the A rctic Regions of Greenland where he was commissioned to search for Dr. Fra nklin and on his successful return was presented a special medal for his d istinguished services from the hands of Queen Victoria. The museum also co ntains the eye-glass used by Rear Admiral Fyffe while on this expedition. Mold hand forged iron fork of four tines is said to date from 1818. Sim on Kenton's fireplace lamp and his china-faced watch. An old powder-horn b eautifully engraved, the original owner of which is said to have been A sa WIlcocks and was used by him in the Revolutionary War being made in 177 5. It later came into the possession of John A. Ward of Urbana and giv en by him to Mr. McDargh. On old deerskin pocketbook the property of Indi an Chief Black Hawk who himself it to John Kenton a nephew of Simon Kent on and Mr. Kenton gave it to Mr. McDargh. A biographical sketch writt en by a niece of Simon Kenton while he was bedfast and dictated it to h er a part of which is still legible. A cowboy lariat rope which was woven from the split hides of buffalo by Wi lliam Cody (Buffalo Bill) who personally presented it to McDargh. There w ar various iron kettles, cook pots and pans used in the pioneer fireplaces. He also has the anchor which was originally on Admiral Peny's flagsh ip during his encounter at Put-In-Bay on Lake Erie. There are also sever al old surgical instruments and a collection of pottery, vases, china, har dware, writings and a wide variety of flags and an original proclamati on of the President of the United States in 1836 signed by President Andr ew Jackson. He also has a large interesting collection of miscellaneous ar ticles. A shield and spear which McDargh claims he secured from a returned mission ary from Ethiopia. He also has an abundance of nuggets and fossils, arrowh eads and various pieces of flint. Several helmets and of special intere st is the high silk hat which was the personal property of Richard Stanho pe who was a personal valet of George Washington and was for half a centu ry a resident of Champaign County residing in Concord Township and his gra ve is on State Route 541 a few miles northwest of Urbana, Ohio. Another interesting and historical object is a pair of Indian moccasins sa id to have belonged to Indian Chief San Antanio who personally posed as t he model for J. Q. A. Ward while the sculptor modeled his famous "Indian H unter" statue. This was the Indian way of pledging his fiiendship. No admission fee is charged to see this museum and there are no set hou rs for visiting but Mr. McDargh is ever courteous and willing to receive v isitors. A few years ago he legally deeded all the museum collection to h is daughter Miss Nellie McDargh of the same address.

HISTORY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, OHIO Among the younger farmers of Johnson township, this county, who have prov ed themselves progressive and scientific in their methods, is Emmet A. Bod ey, who was born on the farm where he now lives, one and one-half miles we st of Millerstown, on April 14, 1875. He is a son of Henry and Elizabeth ( Vincent) Bodey, both of whom were natives of Ohio, the father having be en born in this county, and the mother in Logan county.
The Bodey family were among the early pioneer settlers of this part of Ohi o, Adam Bodey, the father of Henry Bodey, coming to Ohio at an early da te from Virginia. The family are of German descent. Henry Bodey and wife w ere the parents of six children, of whom four are now living; Henrietta, t he wife of Charles Pence, residing in Washington; Lottie, deceased;
Emmet A. Bodey was born and reared on the farm just north of where he is l iving, which was a part of the old Bodey home place. He received his educ ation in the rural schools of his home township, and at the age of sixte en , went to Oregon, where he was employed at farm labor for three year s. At the end of that time he returned to Champaign County, remaini ng on the home place eighteen months, at the end of which time he again we nt West, his destination being Seattle, Washington. He secured employme nt in the lumber woods and was thus engaged for three years, during whi ch time he acquired twenty acres of land in that state. Upon the dea th of his father he returned to Champaign county to take charge of the ho me farm, and has since lived there, carrying on general farming and sto ck raising.
Emmet A. Bodey has been twice married, his first wife having been Rosa Smi th. To that union six children were born, only two of whom are now livin g, Mary and Dale, both of whom are living at home with their father. Aft er the death of the mother of these children Mr. Bodey Married Ada Kaut z, the daughter of Charles Kautz and wife, both of whom were natives of Oh io. Mr. Kautz and wife were the parents of three children, two of whom a re now living, Harry, of Urbana, Ohio, and Ada, the wife of Mr. Bodey. M r. Bodey is an independent voter. He is an up-to-date, progressive farme r, and ranks high in the esteem of his neighbors and friends.

August 2, 1897 Friday evening one of the most villainous and dastardly attempts at crimin al assault conceivable was made upon two of the most estimable and respect able young ladies of St. Paris. Early in the evening Rollo Shofstal and h is chum, Dayton Snyder, ofDayton, Ohio, who have been spending the summ er in the Shofstal country villa at Addison* drove to St. Paris and call ed upon Miss Myrtle Losh and Miss Eva Richeson at the formers home. About nine o'clock the young men suggested a ride and they all got into o ne buggy and drove southwest of St. Paris, until a lonely part of the ro ad in the vicinity of the Swigart farm was reached, about three miles fr om town. Here the young fiends stopped and they seizing the young ladie s, pulled them from the buggy. A fierce struggle ensued between both you ng ladies and their brutal assailants. Miss Losh succeeded in pushing Snyd er into a barbwire fence, where he became sufficiently entangled to perm it her escape to the Swigart residence, where she aroused the inhabitan ts and told them ofMiss Richeson's peril. Mr. Swigart seized a shotgun a nd firing it off, started for the road. The report of the gun frightened y oung Shofstal and perhaps saved Miss Richeson's life. The fiend had stru ck her in the face with his fists and strangled her until blood gushed fr om her mouth and nostrils. She presented a pitiable sight when found. H er nose was almost broken and her discolored features swollen beyond recog nizance. The indentures of the fiends fingers in her throat were still vis ible. Her waist, which was covered with blood, was tom in shreds. The young ladies were driven to their homes by Robert Nicholas and as so on as their parents became cognizant of the terrible occurrence, warran ts were issued and Marshall Tappy, with J. J. Richeson, a brother ofMiss R icheson, and several others as deputies. went to the Shofstal residen ce in Addison where they guarded the house until the arrest was made in t he morning. They were lodged in the St. Paris prison. Owing to Miss Riches on's precarious condition, the hearing was postponed until five o'clo ck in the evening. In the meantime the news had spread like wild-fire through the country a nd St. Paris was thronged with excited people. A pioneer's meeting in prog ress at Addison was broken up and all started for St. Paris. Much exciteme nt prevailed and lynching was talked of It is reported that a rope had be en placed in readiness over one of the limbs of the big tree in front of t he prison. Mr .Buroker appeared for the defendants and requested a continu ance of the hearing, which Mayor Bollinger refused. He, however, granted t he attorney an hour in which to consult to his clients. By this time the crowd had increased to such an extent and became so demon strative that it was deemed inadvisable to bring the culprits into cour t. A private hearing was held in their cells, after which they were spirit ed through the rear entrance and hastily driven to Urbana, where SheriffMc Lain, not desiring another experience with a mob, received the prisoners a nd drove them to Springfield. After the excitement abated, they were retur ned to the Urbana jail Tuesday morning to await the action of the grand ju ry, under bond of$I,OOO each. Mrs. Shofstal, who is an estimable lady and stands high in social circl es in Dayton, has the sympathy of all on account of the disgrace her scape grace son has brought upon her . Saturday she visited the Richeson home a nd offered to compromise but her offers were spumed and rejected, as the p arents are resolved to push the case to the utmost.

The Spring Grove Burial record for Byron G Jenkins has that he died 12-Dec-1964 and was buried the 16-Dec-1964 and the body shipped in from Portland, Indiana
Also on his stone there is a Katherine who died in 1962 and I have a burial record for her buried 28-Apr-1962
Both are located in section 9. It is also on my list to retake to see if I can get a better photo
