Chalky Level was the home of the Greer family in eastern
Clarke County, Georgia, for five generations.

The Greer and Cox Families of Clarke County
|
|
The plantation was located in eastern Clarke County, about five
miles east of Athens, and about five miles west of Cherokee
Corner, on the post road from Lexington to Jefferson.

Thomas Greer and Richard Cox came to Athens about 1802 to
oversee construction of Old College, the first permanent
building on the campus of Franklin College, now the University
of Georgia. (under construction)

Portraits and other memorabilia were saved from Chalky Level
by Norma Grant Greer and her children when they had to vacate
the house in 1932.
