KORNS CARL (CHARLES) KORNS Carl (CharIes) Korns was the maternal great grandfather of Elizabeth Beal and her earliest Korns ancestor in this country. He came from Wurttemberg, Germany. He sailed from Rotterdam via Cowes, England on the ship "Edinburg," James Russell Commanding. He arrived in Philadelphia Tuesday, September 19, 1752. On that same day, at the State House in Philadelphia, in the presence of Edward Shirpen, Esq., he signed a declaration of allegiance and subjection to the King of Great Britain and of fidelity to the proprietary of the province of Pennsylvania. Sometime after his arrival he married a woman whose given name was Otillia. The surname is unknown. The couple lived in Maxatawney Township, Berks County, Pa. from 1754 to 1778. They farmed about 100 acres gotten through land warrants. They reared a family of seven children, namely, Catherine, Charles Jr., Michael, Jacob, Daniel, Henry, and Magdalena. MICHAEL KORNS SR. Michael Korns, Sr., thc grandfather of Elizabeth Beal was born in Berks County in 1760 and he married Susann Baker there. They stayed in Berks County to about 1795 when they followed his brother Jacob to Londonderry Township in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. In 1796, Michael and Jacob bought 200 acres there from a John Tomlinson. When Somerset was designated as a County, Londonderry Township became a part of that county and the township was renamed Southampton. Michael Korns and his wife Susan reared 12 children: Daniel, Catherine, Mary Magdalena, John, Susanna, Rebecca, Charles, Christina, Barbara, Delila, Michael Jr, and William. Michael's farm grew to several hundred acres and was a pride to the community. Much of the land had been cleared and in a good state of cultivation. At one time the place was designated by the Court as a voting place in that district and was formerly the seat of government for the Township. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 30 Apr 1996 Descendants of: Carl (Charles) Korns 1 Carl (Charles) Korns m.
