Thornton of Richmond Co., VA, by John Bennett Boddie.  This article covers the five Thornton families who were resident in Richmond Co., Va. and the nearby counties of Gloucester and Lancaster in the latter part of the 17th Century. The first of these families is William Thornton of Gloucester Co., with the other four families being those of Luke, William and Henry Thornton of Richmond Co. and Dr. Thomas Thornton of Lancaster Co., Va.  It is not uncommon to see a genealogy book reference Boddie.

Genealogies of Virginia Families, Volume II, Pages 838-861, The Fitzhugh Family, Virginia Magazine of History and Biography.  Includes several references to Thorntons.

Marriages of Richmond County, Virginia (1668-1853), Compiled and Published by George H. S. King, Pages 210 - 214.

Thornton Marriages - Do you ever get tired of having to search lots of different sites just to get a little bit of information from each?  Well, I've created an index grouped by state then county for all the various Thornton marriages I've found in my research and thought I'd share it here so you can find it all in one spot!

Thornton Taxpayers - I have included Thornton, Lee, and Blackman tax indexes here for anyone to use. This helps to show where the Thornton's were in North Carolina at certain times.

Thornton Family History.  This is a website of Richard S. Thornton and his narrative on his family who migrated from Virginia to North Carolina/South Carolina and Georgia.

The Thornton Family Word Document by WG Stanard, William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Vol. 4, No. 2. (Oct., 1895), and Vol. 5, No. 1. (Jul., 1896).

Genealogies of Virginia Families, Volume V, Pages 67-75, Some Thorntons, 1642-1826, reprinted from William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Williamsburg, VA. Ser.2, v.19 (1939), p. [309]-317.

Thornton Dates found on back of a hand-drawn Thornton Coat of Arms - not sure where I got this but it has lots of birth/death dates, etc.  There was also a Coat of Arms with it too.
