Daniel Leviticus Goodan

Daniel was the son of Phillip W. Goodan and Sydney Day.  He was born August 7, 1842 in Frankfort, Kentucky and died May 21, 1920 in Pueblo, CO.  He married first, Sarah Matilda Brown and second, Loulie Leona Clarke in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on October 21, 1891.  Children with Sarah, included: Mary Goodan born October 11, 1869; Edward Lee Goodan, May 27, 1871; Lula Sidney Goodan, March 24, 1874; John Goodan, July 25, 1876; Grace Ellen Goodan, April 27, 1879.  Children with Loulie were Ruth Daniel Goodan, born October 1, 1892 and Daniel Clark Goodan, born November 17, 1894.

The only information I have comes from Jerry Gustavson, descendant of Ruth Daniel Goodan.  According to Jerry, Daniel moved to Lucerne, Colorado with his first family.  He shipped cattle back east on railroads.  He put his three oldest boys in cattle cars, while he rode in a coach.  Loulie had heart problems so they moved to lower elevation at Wyconda, Missouri.  There they had a mule farm.  When Loulie died, Daniel moved his family east of Pueblo, Colorado.  He then moved near Alta Vista school at Ramah, Colorado.

"My brother and I took a trip east of Colorado Springs this past summer and found the farm Daniel owned in the early 1900's.  A one room school house that my grandmother Ruth attended until she graduated from the eigth grade in about 1906 is still standing.  We talked to the present owner of the schoolhouse and were shown inside the building.  This schoolhouse was used as a church and my grandfather Edward Gustavson, who was a circuit preacher, met my grandmother inside this building during one of his preaching engagements.  I can only describe my emotion as awestruck to be inside the same building where my family history began."
