Trefry family of Marblehead, Massachusetts

The origins of Thomas/1Trefry of Marblehead are unknown. A Treffry family has its origin at Fowey, County Cornwall, England (Treffry Heritage Council). Claims have been made that Thomas is of this family, but at present there is no proof that this is so, and it appears unlikely. Thomas was a fisherman, whose name first appears at Marblehead in a Town Meeting Petition dated 27 March 1674 (NEHGR, Vol. VII, January, 1863, p. 70), but probably settled there earlier.
