The Rulaford Photo Gallery
"Eddie Rulaford"
This photo is interesting in that it seems
to have come from H. Buchholz & Son Photographers, Springfield,
Mass. There is nothing to indicate that he was ever in that state.
Not only that, but "Eddie" and "Rulaford" (written on the back), were not
written by the same person. Also written on the back (by my mother),
is "Grandpa George R.".

Martha Jane "Mattie" (Ford) Rulaford
Martha Jane (Ford) Rulaford was born in the Walla Walla Valley of Washington Territory in 1859. She was the first white girl to be born in that area. We think this photo of her was taken about 1880. One of her three sons (Cecil Clark Rulaford), was my mother's father.
It is interesting to note that Martha was one of
eleven children; so was her father. Starting with her generation
it seems that people were having fewer children.

George B. and Josehine Rulaford nee Sweet 1935
George B. Rulaford is the son of Burnham "Burnie"
S. Rulaford, and Edgar's grandson. As of January 1, 2000 Josephine
is the only person I know of that is still living with the Rulfaord name.
She still lives in the same house they lived in when this photo was taken.
They had no children.
Cecil Clark and Edna May Rulaford nee Anderson 4-7-1906
This photo was taken about 8 months before Cecil and Edna were married. The location is not given, but could have been Walla Walla or College Place, Washington.

Alma (Harding) Rulaford, Cecil and Helen circa 1915
I know very little about Alma. My mother
would not say much about her other than she didn't like her and the marriage
didn't last long. I think Cecil had a problem with his church about
Alma.

I'm not sure where or when this photo was taken.
I assume mid 1920's and Portland, OR. I had no idea who the girl
on the right was until today (10/29/00); she is the daughter of Anna Maude
Bunker Rulaford. Helen Burnham, and Edna May and Cecil Laertes Rulaford
had died by this time. My mother told me that Mattie would not let
her in the kitchen. As a result some of her cooking skills suffered.
The only way she knew to cook meat was extremly well done. However
her potato salad was the best bar none.
(rear l-r Cecil, Helen, Lindly)
(front l-r Meda, Garnetha, Florence)
This photo was taken on Thanksgiving Day 1925.
Meda Lawrence was Cecil's third wife, and Garnetha was their only child.
Lindly was Meda's brother, and I assume Florence was his wife or girlfriend.
The Rulafords lived in several houses in Portland in the 1920's, and I'm
not sure where this one was.
Helen Rulaford and first husband Walter Harmon circa 1926
Helen and Walter were married the night that Helen graduated from Girls' Poly in January of 1926. They would have a single child (Melvin), who did not live to majority. I have only vague memories of Melvin in Sweet Home, OR, in 1943.

George and Helen (Rulaford) Houk in Alaska circa 1936
My parents met and married in Juneau, Alaska
in 1936. My father worked in a gold mine; or so I have been told.
Some of the things that my mother told me about the family background were
not true.

Melvin Harmon in Alaska circa 1936
As you look at this photo of Melvin you're saying to yourself, "He's not all there." You're right; he wasn't all there. He died of a brain tumor in 1943. I will never forget the day that my mother last saw him alive.
About the time the 4 Alaskan photographs above were taken something was happening that would effect the entire world, and take the lives of so many for no good reason. A man was coming into power who would be King of Earth.

However there was some one who would kick his ass! It would take time and lives, but I think we did the right thing. It's just too bad that we didn't do it sooner.
