Topics: General Information Editing the Book Would you like to view the draft version at no cost? Where can I find a copy of the draft version? Where else will the draft version be deposited? When will the book be published? What can I do to help? Where do I begin?
General Information The Cullinan & Cullinane Family Genealogy Project invites you to participate in the creation of a lasting and comprehensive study on the Cullinan and Cullinane surnames and personalities. The project will culminate in the production of a book and it is hoped that every family will be able to contribute to the work. You can learn more about the project, its goals and the editor/contributors who have been so helpful in the production of the book. Note that this is a not-for-profit project, and that once published, the book will only be made available to those family members who have contributed to its contents.
Would you like to view the draft version at no cost? At the present time there are about 20 copies of the book which are circulating among family members in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. If you would like to borrow the book for a one-month period, this is possible as well, however, it is expected that each family will assist the project by contributing family tree information, including such things as names, dates and places, etc. A good place to start is the "Mini-Census" which is located on the Download C&C-Files Page (Below). The project is a not-for-profit venture, and as such, those families wanting to borrow the book must pay for the mailing costs. At no point should any family member be required to pay for the use of the book, as this is one of the tenets behind the project; the cost of mailing, photocopies, etc. are to be paid before the book is mailed. More information can be sent to you if you would like to learn more about borrowing the book. Would you like to Sponsor a copy of the book? If you would like to sponsor a copy of the book, you are welcome to do so. This would assist others in gaining access to the records, especially when the book is deposited at a local library. To sponsor a book, you would be required to purchase the book in advance, then have your local library send a letter to the Author stating that the book has been received in good condition and that it will be catelogued for use in the library's collection. More information can be sent to you on Sponsoring the book. As of August, 1996, there are more than five libraries which possess a copy of the book. Only two libraries have completed the cateloguing of the book, namely:
Where else will the draft version be deposited? This list is updated on a regular basis, so be sure to check to see if the book has been deposited in a library near you. At the present time, the following libraries have been approached to have the book added to their collection:
When will the book be published? The book is currently be reviewed by the editors (See Editors, above). Once all of these changes have been submitted, the book will be compiled and new sections added or enlarged. The book will then be made available to only those family members who have contributed to its contents. What can I do to help? Where do I begin? In a word, LOTS! Start by completing the "mini-census" (below). If you cannot download this file, I would be pleased to send you a copy of the form through regular mail. You can also help by conducting research in your own area, by contacting other Cullinans or Cullinanes who have expressed interest in the project. All items of a genealogical value would be appreciated--from newspaper clippings, local biographies and census records for your local library to colour photocopies of photographs of early ancestors. State and local family history organizations are a great way to learn about the first steps of your search and will be able to direct you to some excellent sources of records which have already been compiled for your convenience. Any information of this nature would be a welcome addition to the book. Of course, I would be pleased to help you in learning more about your Cullinan or Cullinane genealogy at no cost.
