Description:
Above is a picture of Major Pat Cullinan from Australia, found in Beyond the Icefall: Australia's Everest Expedition. Cullinan, age 37, was the oldest Australian on the team. He is photographed here with the flag of the 1 Commando Regiment at Camp Four. Mount Chomolungma is in the background.

Sorrell Wilby's book tells the story of the first Australian ascent of Mount Everest in May of 1988--and what an amazing story it is. As part of Australia's Bicentennial, a team was assembled to plan the climb: it would require the logistical coordination of the Australian Army's Alpine Association, a myriad of permits from the Nepalese government, the endorsement of the Australian Bicentennial Authority and countless other organizations. Through this hard work, the first steps had come together to enable one of the most exciting and glorious achievements in Australian history.
