General Information
Drumcliffe Cemetery is about a half hour walk out of the centre of Ennis, Co. Clare, along the Corofin road. The cemetery is divided into two sections, with the older part along on one side and the newer part on the other. The cemetery is comprised
of stone monuments as well as vaults, flag stones and markers, gated areas as well as simple stones. When I visited the cemetery in June of 1995, the grass was well over two feet high which made it difficult to wade through in order uncover many of
the Cullinan stones. There were several Cullinan vaults, perhaps among the oldest in cemetery. It is likely that the vaults were built as early as 1800, but these were not the oldest ones in the county.
The photograph here is the Cullinan-Studdart vault, located at the centre of the cemetery, about half-way up the hill.
