Comments:

  1. I met Mrs. Russell in June of 1995 at the Family History Centre, Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, Ontario where she is a volunteer and researcher. Mrs. Russell's grandparents were Ellen (née Cullinan) Simpson (1871-1919) and George Henry Simpson (1870-1950).
  2. According to Mrs. Russell, this family lived in Montreal; the family changed the spelling of the surname from Cullinan to Cullen circa 1890. The other Cullinan family which I have documented in Plate IX. Both families have used the surnames Cullinan and Cullen interchangeably and lived in Montreal for more than fifty years. No connection between the two families has been drawn.
  3. Timothy Cullinan (-1857) enlisted on December 9, 1848 at Limerick, Co. Limerick, Ireland with the 1st North Staffordshire Regiment (64th Regiment of Foot). In the course of his service, he fought in both Persia and India. He is listed in the "Medal Roll, Indian Mutiny, 1857."
  4. George Henry Simpson (1870-1950) served in both world wars: he was a Sapper with the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in France; later he served as a petty officer on the mine layer "Sankaty" which brought him to service in Canada, on the high seas and Britain. In addition to this service he was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve.
