Death Claims W.E. Cullinan Unexpectedly Rockland Man, Prominent at Bridgewater Normal is
mourned by Hosts of Friends
ROCKLAND, Feb. 18--The death of William Edward Cullinan, 21 years old, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Cullinan of Summit street and a student at Bridgewater Normal, which occured at the Goddard hospital
yesterday was a great shock to many friends and acquaintances in both towns. He has attended Bridgewater Normal
school for the last three years and a half and would have received his degree this coming June.
Cullinan was one
of the leading men at Normal both in scholastic work and athletics, being most popular as well as an honor student.
He has played each year on the footbal and baseball teams, and played on the newly formed soccer team, this year.
He was a prominent member of the Men's Dramatic club, having a prominent part in the recent play, "The Time of
His Life" and was a tenor in the Glee club.
He had apparently been in his usual health except for trouble with
his eyes. He had visited an oculist who told him that rest was what was needed rather than glasses. Tuesday he
seemed slightly ill and a doctor was called who ordered his immediate removal to the Goddard hospital and he was
rushed there late that afternoon. Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock he lapsed in to unconsciousness, passing away
shortly before noon, death being due to pneumonia.
He was a native of the town, a graduate of Rockland High
school, class of 1922. He was prominently identified with athletics at the High school, being a member of several
school teams.
He is survived by his parents who receive the deepest of sympathy from a host of friends.
The
body was taken in charge by undertaker George E. Mansfield and taken today to the home of Edward Gould, 677 Union
Street, from where the funeral will be held Saturday morning with a requiem mass at the Church of the Holy Family
at 9 o'clock.
The faculty of Bridgewater Normal and the Normal men plan to attend in a body.
